Amazon Basics 12-Sheet Cross-Cut Paper and Credit Card Shredder with Overheat Protection, Black (New Model)

I purchased at least 10 shredders from all different brand in the past and have spent thousands of dollars. I had to shred at least 500 boxes of 10 ream size paper boxes since we were going digital . The average price was $79 all the way to $500. Some shredder automatically fed paper sheet per sheet, some shredder minced the paper, some shredder shred the paper crisscross, some shredded the paper course size. All broke down within six months to 3 years . I decided to purchase the Amazon brand to add to my collection of broken shredders . I am thinking if I can get a year out of it, it would be great. Surprisingly, this shredder has been one of the best shredder to date in terms of overall functionality . The price is decent, it can literally shred nonstop. The paper shred size is adequate allowing it to work nonstop without jamming frequently compared to all the previous shredders I have owned. Noise level is adequate. The bin is decent size. However, a bigger bin would be nice to minimize frequent dumping of the shredded paper. If you happen to work for the FBI or KGB, this shredder will not work for you in terms of paper mince size security but for the 98% of the individuals out there, this shredder will serve its purpose.

The Amazon Basics shredder is simple to set up and use for my home office. I will say my shredding needs are fairly low, but I had a ton of paper accumulated over the years that I wanted to get rid of. It went right through all of them with relative ease. It's very compact and doesn't take up a lot of space. Now I will say, it's a bit noisy, but at the end of the day it's a shredder. I would be shocked to find one that was relatively quiet. Either way, it was very easy to shred through all my papers, junk mail, and even some credit cards. It shredded it with no issue and the shredded paper itself wasn't discernible or easy to parse through. It also stored a ton of paper, despite it being so compact. I only had to clear it out once. So far so good, I'll update this review if I run into any issues but as of right now--This works for me!

This is actually the third Amazon shredder that I have purchased. The original one i purchased was the 8 sheet shredder. I had it in my office at work. It worked great until it didnt (no fault of the shredder). I opened it up and tried to clean it out because it quit working and found metal credit cards inside. I didn't even know there was such a thing as metal credit cards. I tried and tried to get it going again but finally gave up. I ordered another Amazon basic shredder to replace it but a bigger one this time. I wasn't disappointed in the first one. It was a paper shredder and not a cutting torch so i never expected it to hold up to that. Was more disappointed in the person who decided my shredder was gonna cut metal than the shredder for not doing it. That was so dumb. Now I have set up a new home office and of course I got me another Amazon Basic shredder. I just got the 8 sheet shredder for home and its doing amazing. All of the shredders I have purchased have done a great job. You can forward or reverse the paper if it gets stuck. It has a clear window so you can see how much paper you have inside without taking the lid off. It also has a handle on it that you can use to help take the lid off for cleaning. I definitely like my shredder. I have purchased 3.

This has been a good little shredder for my home office. I like the size—it doesn’t take up a lot of space, and the shape makes it easy to find a spot for it. It was simple to put together and has worked well for the papers I’ve shredded so far. I also like that it cross-cuts rather than just making long strips, which gives a little more security. I don’t regularly shred highly sensitive documents, but I still prefer the extra protection. I haven’t filled the basket yet, so I can’t really comment on how often it will need to be emptied, but so far, I’m happy with it. Overall, a nice, simple shredder for everyday home-office use that is not super loud.

I returned the first one I received (no power) but the replacement works just as I hoped. It's perfect for my needs -- the cross-cutting is especially effective and the shredded pieces fall into a small desk-sized waste basket with a window so you can watch your progress. I did note one reviewer's comment about not trying to max out feeding 8 sheets at a time (even though it should handle that amount). I generally feed 3-4 sheets at a time and have had no problems. That could get tedious, of course, if you have a lot to shred. I didn't try shredding credit cards so I can't comment on that. Also the shredder is pretty loud. Still, I'm very pleased with purchase -- it's already been a great help.

Great shredder it’s not messy at all very quiet when shredding paper . You can move it around and place it anywhere because it’s a portable one and it has different levels to shredding . I wouldn’t trade it for nothing and it didn’t cost that much it was a good price and it should last for along time .

I love this shredder. It cuts better than expected, but I broke my last shredder due to over-loading it, so I making sure I don't do it to this one. It handles cutting many papers, but not over 8 pages at a time. I keep it to about 5, so that it works faster than it does with 8 sheets. The confetti removal is easy due to the connected trash can. Speed is ok, but I don't need the fastest shredder myself. It is not as loud as the older models, and this one is quite durable too .. I keep a trash bag in the attached trash can to catch the threads.

This is a nice compact (light duty) shredder for general home use. It isn't any noisier or quieter than other shredders; fairly light and easy to move around; the handle on the top to lift the shredder from the basket is nice to have. While the shredder is rated at 8 sheets (standard 20# printer paper) maximum, it really seems to struggle even with two sheets. It does the job as with credit cards or heavier paper, but sometimes it sounds like it is ready to stop. The continuous runtime is only 3 minutes so it does get a little hot even after use for a short time. While it doesn't or hasn't jammed, running it in reverse every so often helps to clear the shredder and makes it run forward smoother. It is very reasonably priced for the product, but do not expect it to function as well or as long as the higher end models. Light, occasional, and short period is use is probably the best for this shredder.

I have used this shredder for a long time now, and I believe that I may have even not followed the directions that the shredder recommends. What I mean by that, is that I have ran the shredder continuously when I was in a little shredding rampage, and this shredder showed absolutely no signs of overheating or struggling. Obviously, you can’t put too many papers in at once and that makes sense, but I have put the shredder to its limits and tests. I’m glad I didn’t buy the shredder that cost five times more that says it can run continuously longer than this one. I doubt this would have been true. If I ever needed to buy another shredder or somebody asked me about one, I would recommend this one. I know it’s on Amazon basic products, and just like you. I also felt the same that it was actually going to be very bad quality. But for this product, I do feel that I got better value for what I paid. I would never compare this product to a $600 shredder but for what it cost this is probably the best in its price range.

Picked this shredder because it was amongst the cheapest for a 12+ sheet shredder at my time of purchase and had a dedicated CD/Card shredder slot which was important to me to ensure they don't create unevenness in the main shredder teeth. Have used it for a while now and no complaints though there are a few nice to haves in a future model. There is pretty much no garbage bag that will fit in the tray unless its extremely large. Also would have been nice to have some shredder oil come with it. Have tried to avoid sticky stuff but it will shred bristol board, envelopes, padded envelopes, amazon paper packaging, single ply cardboard. Haven't had any signs of it slowing down yet. need to hold the forward and backward buttons to activate manual mode with a slight delay. Only real con is the 30 minute run time, would have been nice to have one hour.

After reading the reviews, I was carefully optimistic about this purchase. We have a small business and we had a lot of historical paperwork to shred. I wanted an automatic document feed shredder and this one fit the bill. In the 5 days since receiving the Amazon shredder, I have shredded stacks of paper. The automatic document feed works great. I put in stapled and unstapled pages, (I followed the directions and only placed the staples towards the front of the shredder) and so far no paper jams. The bin is a good size, I line it with a clear plastic bag to make bin changes easier/tidier. I can put in a stack of paper and leave the room, the shredder does the job while I'm gone.

Amazing. This shredder shreds so fast and does old credit cards really well.
