Care about your data? Get this, works well in a high workload environment.
A very rugged bit of gear. I actually have just bought another one as it was on sale. I bought a load of server enterprise drives for cheap a while back and used it often to transfer data from those and other different drives. This enclosure is excellent and will NOT skip a beat. It is the Anker of Enclosures, a decent well made product. Little did I know a single one of these drives is now worth more than what I paid for for the set! I felt to put these as backup drives and one a hot external. I have a file server and ran out of drive connectors as it is a cheapo Celeron board. Not wanting to upgrade the motherboard just yet for a file server I popped one of these to the USB-3 port with one of these drives. It has been in use constantly and has had zero issues and does not skip a beat. I would trust this over a cheaper one and I have had corruption from cheaper units where a USB drive failed, I plugged in the backup drive to find that was corrupted by the cheaper enclosure requiring that I use the filesystem journal to recover (ExFAT would have been screwed in this case, meaning going to the offsite backup). The enclosure does NOT bottleneck allowing full USB 3 speeds. I get better write speeds with this and enterprise HDDs over QLC SSDs with a full cache, which happens often during my workloads, to the point I went back to enterprise HDDs. It has been in use in a rugged high workload environment and has not skipped a beat. The only bad bit: When using enterprise drives during very long writes, these drives get HOT, to the point they can be uncomfortable to hold naked when run in this unit which has no airflow. I have not observed this with consumer drives. So the one in the file server I leave the cover off to allow better airflow. If you want to use this with an enterprise drive, I would drill a few air holes for breathing. I think UGreen should add a tiny little fan for if you wish to use enterprise drives, but my usecase can sometimes result in 3+ TB of writes in a single session, so its a heavy usecase. All in all, a wonderful product that is both suited to consumer and prosumer use, though some caveats with the latter.

Very impressed.
I really like this device.I was able to retrieve over 800GB of data from a hard disk from a PC that packed up.The speeds were excellent and it's really easy to set up.

Good but needs improving
It seems good (time will tell) but could so easily have been much better. This drive carrier may be ‘Plug and Play’ but any new drive you install into it probably won’t be. So, if you have plugged a brand new drive into the carrier and connected it to a Windows PC don’t assume that the new drive will either be visible in Explorer, that Windows will automatically take you through the necessary set-up process or that there is any help in the instructions with this carrier or with the new drive. Windows Disk Management contains the necessary tools to make a new drive usable within the system: right click ‘START’ then select it and carefully identify your new disk (if necessary by comparing the drives listed when it is ’off’ with those listed when it is ‘on’). Do not meddle with existing drives. Click on the unassigned volume and use the ‘new partition’ Wizard to take you through the straightforward steps of assigning it an unused letter of identification etc. etc. I suspect that the ‘auto sleep’ feature could prove to be a problem if/when I place an HDD in this case and was surprised to find that this isn’t simply switch adjustable on the device or via its ‘properties’ in Windows. Sleep is possibly imposed due to the poor ventilation, which others have mentioned, as the only vents are in the base, with none providing vertical flow. I will slide the case open if this proves to be an issue and may even drill small diameter upper vents if necessary in the rear panel. I have experienced no difficulty sliding the case open - pressing down gently near the centre front seems to release it perfectly. Mechanically, there is nothing to stop a drive coming away from the SATA connector. So, although it is quite tight and probably OK for a 2.5 SSD, I cut a suitable piece of plastic to bridge the gap behind the drive and eliminate the risk of it disconnecting. My next step is cloning my PC's boot drive to the SSD and, if successful, swapping them over and using the case for the HDD.

5/5 Definitely get this if you need an enclosure. Great brand. Would recommend.
Been using this for my external drive from my PC to connect it to my Mac. Installing my hard drive inside it was very easy as it also comes with instructions in case you need them. I replaced the cable it came with as I needed one that connected to USB C whilst this was a standard USB 3.0, so I won't say this is a negative as this was purely for my needs. The enclosure is made from plastic, but that's to be expected as there's no need to use high quality materials for the enclosure as the price would go up more. What matters is that it works for what it is intended for. When not in use, you can safely eject the hard drive on your PC/Mac and then turn it off on the enclosure to prevent it from starting up when not needed. Also, this being from UGREEN, I knew I could trust it as I've bought many things from them as they've always been reliable.

Handsome enclosure but beware of Windows formatting prompt
I bought a 1TB, 3.5" Seagate HDD at a car boot sale for £3. Luckily it worked and initially I used it with a generic HDD harness, which did the job but wasn't pretty, what with the unused connectors left dangling from short, untidy leads. Also it left the drive itself exposed. (Besides I usually use the harness to connect an internal optical drive to my laptop, so I needed it back.) I transferred the HDD to this handsome enclosure - which was laughably easy; no tools required - but found that Windows now wanted to format the drive. I've no idea why. In the end, I had no choice but to obey having by now shuffled the data I'd already loaded on to other drives (by temporarily reverting to the harness). Even then, for some reason Windows only gave me access to about an eighth of the full capacity; this problem I fixed by using the partition manager application to extend the one partition into the inexplicably unused space. This may be a problem with Seagate drives. Anyway, I now have a 1TB drive for about half the usual price. Even if the HDD breaks down, I can always use the enclosure with another HDD. I must say I find the enclosure exceedingly neat and appealing-looking; even the power/activity light is a pleasing colour and not obnoxiously bright (which makes a change these days; just because LEDs are bright and efficient doesn't mean they always have to be driven at their full brightness!). It does indeed work with USB 3.0; the transfer rate is much better than I'm used to. So, this is highly recommended but beware that Windows might make you format the drive once it's in the enclosure. Plan accordingly! Either start with a drive you want to format anyway or be prepared to take a back-up. Hopefully you won't have this problem at all.

Easy to use
This seems to be an excellent HD enclosure at a competitive price. Well packaged, clear instructions, no problems fitting the HD into the enclosure and the HD looks to be well protected by the enclosure. Purchased for a neighbour I am helping with a new PC, so no comment possible about speed of access, but Explorer opened very quickly when it was switched on, and a HD scan with my AV software ran quickly.

Works as intended, plug and play
So far really happy with it. I've been looking for this sort of device for a while and everything was stupidly expensive. This one is reasonably priced and performs fantastically. True plug and play. No fuss.

Excellent and Easy
Excellent and easy. Simple and quick to setup, slide hard drive into enclosure and give a firm push to engage connection. Be aware that some disks might not display in Explorer at first attempt, I had one out of four that didn't show.It appeared in the disk management app however, googled and found a few reasons for the no show in Explorer. All I had to do was assign a new drive letter to the two partitions on the disk using the disk managemet app (right click the start button and you will find it in the long list shown) left some space and named them "M" and "N". instanly then popped up in Explorer.

Perfect for what I needed it for !
This was a completely painless process - the enclosure is really sturdy and clean looking. I’m using this for a home file server with a 8tb HDD inside and I’ve had absolutely 0 issues with it ! Great price , great product 100% recommend !

Quality well designed HDD enclosure
Bought this to replace 9 year old enclosure. The product came in a nice quality packing with an usb 3.0 cable and power supply. The product is designed well and simple to install. It holds the HDD in place with rubber foam support, no screws for installation. The finishing is good and feels like an expensive enclosure. Looks nice on my desk. It's made of quality plastic. I am very satisfied with this enclosure.
