Evenflo Position & Lock Tall and Wide Value Adjustable Baby Gate (Farmhouse Collection)

To preface, I use these gates for my dogs, not for babies/children, so my review might be irrelevant to some on here. I have an impressively Houdini-like dog that I’ve had to use a lot of trial and error methods to contain. One thing I’ve found that works is to use a gate on the bottom and to affix a gate like this directly above it for easy put-up and take-down when I leave/return to the house, respectively. I recently moved into a new house with a wider walkway and found that my existing top gate wasn’t long enough to fit in the walkway, so I searched Amazon for a wider one and found this. It functions as any other gate of the like, with two grips on each side that prevent it from slipping on the wall and the sliding bar to adjust the width. My primary reason for reviewing this lies with the maximum width it will accommodate, as it does differ from standard gates used for standard doorways/walkways. My walkway is 48”, and it fits with room to spare (I believe I secure it on the 4th notch from the top), which makes it perfect for my needs! Additionally, I was impressed with the sturdiness of the cross-hatched bars that comprise the insides of the frame. They are far more solid than those of gates of the like I’ve bought in the past If you’re in need of a good quality gate at a reasonable price, especially if you have a wide walkway/doorway to secure it within, this is a great option!

This classic design is simple and relatively inexpensive. We choose to use this gate for the wide entrance to our main room, and another more expensive one with a openable latching gate in a smaller doorway. This way we have at least one easy open gate in the loop. Although this gate is pretty easy to open and close, the latching gate style really makes a difference. Plus I feel that the more we open and close this one, the greater chance it has of breaking. The gate installs easily enough, it's better when you learn to mark which notch you need to use, then slide the setting up to that point before levering it down to install. It feels a bit flimsy in the lever arm, so I try to be careful when locking it in. As you are levering the arm down, the tension wants to push the arm out to either side, and this feels like the point which would be most likely to break with frequent repeated opening and closing. Once it is locked, though, it feels much more sturdy. The first time we installed it, we thought the baby might climb it, but he gave up after feeling how uncomfortable the wire screen was on his feet.

Worth every penny for sure. Very sturdy and stable gate my 2 year old hits and kicks it and doesn't even make it budge. He stands at 3 feet tall and this gate is perfect for keeping him out of rooms. Easy to set up and adjust the locking mechanism in place in seconds without hassle. Also conveniently folds into itself for easy storage. The wires for the gate itself aren't flimsy like most either and are also very nice and sturdy. Would be a hard gate to break. If you're 5'3" you'll fall trying to put your leg over the gate tho..you been warned lol

EDIT: "This gate was great at first... until it BROKE a 1 month later so I found a MUCH better option which is the Carlson Extra Tall Baby Gate on Amazon.No more wooden baby gates for me.. EVER. The metal gate is twice the price but will also last you over twice as long I am sure of it.. PLUs it's easier to get in and out of since it has a door handle instead of trying to jump over it or undo it every time you wanna get past WHAT A HASSLE" Carlson 0941PW Extra-Tall Walk-Thru Gate with Pet Door, White First Review: My Labradoodles can jump regular baby gates in a single bound without making a noise when they land.. I was desperate to find something to keep them out the rest of the house when we had company. This gate it too high for them to jump and it seems to work just fine.. no escapes yet. I also lock it about 5 inches higher off the ground to add height. Does the trick.

Beautiful gate as far as attractiveness goes. Useless to me at this point because I cannot get the stupid slide lock to work! Every other baby gate in the entire land that I have ever owned has had a simple clip that snaps into place on the lower bar. Not this thing. It has some ridiculous (plastic!) piece-o' that does not move no matter what I do! If I can ever get the thing installed, I will never be able to take it down again! What bureaucrat got involved in designing this monstrosity?! I'm going to have to return this thing -- which will eat up yet more time, energy and money that I don't have -- to get one with a regular clip lock instead! Stupid waste of time. Update: 1-14-20 After I exchanged this ridiculous evenflow baby gate, I ordered a North states baby gate. For whatever reason, the north states baby gate does not show up in my product reviews. However, if you were considering a North State baby gate run the other way! They’re cheap and they break. Even though they have the right locking mechanism and not that stupid surround one, the little plastic sliders that hold the gate together are ridiculous. If the gate tips over, they snap in half and the gate becomes useless. I have had this gate for less than seven months and it’s already useless. If you have cats, do not use this gate. If they knock the gate over out of the doorway (which will happen because it is so flimsy it does not fit snug), when the gate hits the ground the plastic tabs break off. Ridiculous waste of money! Quality is really shot in all these gates these days!

I love how tall this is! I ordered this because my 2 year old toddler would wake up in the morning and very quietly sneak out of his room and get into stuff throughout the house before I woke up. This has eliminated the problem completely. He'll try to climb up it but the wire like mesh would hurt his feet if he put any weight on it. It's not sharp or anything, just uncomfortable. I noticed a review where someone said the stick snapped while trying to clamp it down. And it's true like most baby gates the wood is flimsy, but if you create the right amount of tension it will never snap. I was too lazy to mesure the space so I just started at the first indentation and went up one until it held the gate in place. If you go two slots over the right measurement I'm pretty sure it will snap. But even if it feels like there's not a lot of tension when pushing the stick down, it should still stick to the wall. it will be set in place and hold up just fine. I had my toddler test it out with pulling and pushing and it didn't move at all. I needed to get a taller gate for my son but I do wish it was just a little bit shorter so I could step over it. I'm 5'4" and I can't step over it which is kinda annoying having to undo it and redo it all the time when I'm using it. If it were just a little bit shorter it would be absolutely perfect. All in all I'm very happy with this gate. It reaches out far so I can use it in the kitchen walkway as well. The price is very very cheap and the wood may be flimsy but I have payed more for worse than this. As long as you know how to use it correctly, and UNDERSTAND that it's not supposed to have that much tension it's a great tool to have when you got a toddler running around. Very happy with this purchase. We needed a gate that covered 43" and the options were sparse and costly. This gate is perfect. Other gates failed to keep my small dog from breaking through but this one is sturdy and has withstood his attempts to the point that now he does not even try. It adjusts easily to various lengths and I found it best to put the metal clasp in one groove tighter so that when you pull down the levers it is uneven. When you push the levers together you can lock it in place so there is enough pressure to make it tight. It is tall enough where I am unable to step over the gate, but I just put a small stool on the other side that I can step on - carefully so I don't fall over. I'm not sure how this would work with a baby or large dog, but I would highly recommend this product to keep a small dog in his space.

I use this as a gate for our pets. The larger size is great for our medium sized dog. Locks solidly in place. Light weight. Easy to move around. Great pricing. Exactly what I was looking for.

Ordered this for our hallway to keep dogs in at night. Didn't want a permanent gate. Simple to use and flexible enough to get a good friction fit against satin finish walls. Recommended.

En lo personal me gusta mucho este modelo de rejilla ya que se adapta y coloca fácilmente a los espacios y es muy portable. Ya tenia una rejilla como esta un modelo mas viejo y compre esta nueva para otra área y cumple perfecto su función, de hecho este modelo trae un sistema diferente para trabar la rejilla y es mas seguro ya que mi bebe no puede sacarlo y abrirla. El sistema de la rejilla que tenia antes aprendió como sacarlo y con este aun no ha podido....

Wish it had a hinge to swing it open/closed. As it is it must be lifted out and moved to the side for me to get in and out. I bought this to keep my old kitty inside, but let her still see out. Its doing the job I bought it for BUT I truly wish it had a hinge or something so I could swing it open and closed for me going through. If it had a hinge I'd have given it 5 stars.
