Gearbox without Motor: Vapor/Night

I am so glad that I ordered this part when I purchased my Night Vapor Plane. Let me explain. I am a true beginner in the RC airplane world. I have never flown anything more complicated than a paper airplane before. The Night Vapor was my entry into the RC world. Well hand-eye coordination has to be learned. And in a learning mode I am. I nicknamed my pilot persona as Crash Gordon, and crash I do. Flying inside I crash into walls, the floor, desks, tables, chairs. If it is there, I can crash into it. Outside, I crash even more. Well the Night Vapor was holding up to this abuse pretty well, until I cracked the engine mount / gearbox (this exact part). This was the first thing to go. So as I had this as a spare, I've put my Vapor back in working order, and bright and early tomorrow morning I'm off to try again.Wish me luck.PS. There are no clear instructions in the manual on how to replace this part on the Night Vapor. But with minimal ingenuity, I think I have it together again just fine. It took a hobby blade to whittle the old part off the main structural rod. And then some super glue to put the new one back on. Then the motor had been attached to the broken mount with some flexible glue (Silicon?). My tube of Silicon (Aquarium cement) had hardened in the tube, so I used some contact cement as a flexible glue to hold the motor in place. I'm sure there must be a better way here. But without any instructions, that was my best guess at putting things back together again.

Broke the gearbox on my Night Vapor while trying to fly it too windy conditions. It was parked car vs my plane and the car won. Anyway, once the gearbox came in, it was fairly easy to install. I screwed off the prop and the motor pulled out of the gearbox harness with just a slight tug. I had to use an exacto knife to cut the old gearbox off the carbon fiber fuselage since it appears there may have been a drop of CA holding it in place. When I pushed the new gearbox in place, it was a snug enough fit that I decided not to use CA. 10 seconds to replace the motor and 20 seconds to screw the prop back on. All in all an easy 10 minute fix.

I liked the product very much, the only downside was “pilot error” on my part, the part fit fine an exact match, but I damaged the plane attaching it so it didn’t fly long, but that was in no way due to the gearbox. I would buy again.

I used a dremel tool to remove the old box from the plane and one drop of super glue to attache the new one.The part fit exactly but you will have to figure out your own installation technique. If you are looking at this item then you know what you need.

This is the correct part for a night vapor although the gears are twisted but it should be ok

Imperfections in the gears from use can cut your flight duration and rob power from your motor. This is a one-piece solution for a great price.

Received my gearboxes in relabeled packaging. New parts clearly did not fit the Vapor, were wrong design, yet were labeled the same parkzone part number for the Vapor. What I received was totally different from the picture of the gearbox seen on the sale page, as shipped from PTOMart.Tried to attempt a return for refund, but PTOMart requests that the buyer pay the return shipping and provide unopened packaging. The gearboxes came in bubble wrap, so I had to open the packages. Only to see that I got the wrong part! Why should I pay shipping costs and hassle for a refund when it's their mistake?Thankfully, I was able to settle this issue with the excellent Customer Service at Amazon.com, and got a credit!
