this book is suitable for layperson that is anyone who does not come from a medical background can read it without difficulty. i have know a few people who have problems with mental health and that there are often discrimination about them not being able to recover nor be treated well enough with medication only. but it seems there are some sense of balance that diet plays an important part to not only physical health but also for the mind. a different perspective in looking at the problem as a whole for others who are trapped with poor mental health state. i have shown and explained this with family and friends who are beginning to understand there is a true connection between what we eat and how we behave.

Excellent and essential reading
There is now an acceptance and understanding that certain drugs will have side-effects that produce a change in behaviour. In fact some drugs are designed to do exactly that - change how you behave and feel. If we accept that drugs do this, often with little understanding of how, why can we not accept that food, chemicals within food and in the environment can do the same?Well thankfully Dr Philpott does accept this and in this wonderful book explains how brain allergies arise and how they can, and do, effect behaviour and feelings. The book contains many example of how individual's 'psychological' problems have in fact turned out to be reactions to food, chemicals in the environment, preservatives and additives, non-caking agents in table salt, and chlorinated water. Some food examples include:Hyperactivity in a child being caused by string beans. Violent anger in a woman that was triggered by oranges. Sensitivity to wheat in a seventeen year old who had been classed as mentally ill for three years. Watermelons leading to depression and irritability in a twelve year old. Manic depression being caused by milk in a thirty year old patient. What surprises, and saddens, me greatly is that this information is not more widely available and that it is not embraced by the medical profession. If you think your mental health is being impaired, by either the food you eat or something in the environment, then do yourself a favour and read this book and then pass it onto your doctor.Nutrition is also explored and this new edition also contains a section on magnetic therapy.
