Professional Guide Rail Adapter for Makita DRT50 / RT0700C / RT0702C / RT0700 for Makita / Bosch / Festool / Mafell Guide Rail Router Edge Milling Adapter

I have a Bosch rail that I bought alongside a cordless Bosch pro circular saw. This has been useful for precision straight cuts (as I don't have a table saw) and as I was in the market for a palm router I was keen to find something that might work with the Bosch rail. Besides building some sort of jig, or carefully using some sort of straight edge, I felt that a rail made a lot of sense for routing 18mm grooves as part of a shelving system build I am doing. So I found this adapter, and was pleased to see that it claimed to work with my rail the Makita router I had bought. The adapter itself is made of a strong plastic material, and to use it you first need to remove the screws from the fixed base on the palm router (four in the case of my Makita). Keep those screws handy and use them to fix the adapter and you're basically good to go. In use, the adapter sits to the left hand side of the router, and has some grooves to locate on the corresponding protruding part of the rail. You then ensure that your rail is where it needs to be - with the setup I have it's approximately 50mm from the straight edge of my rail to the midpoint of the router bit, so any guide lines you mark on the material will be 50mm to the left of the centre of the cut. You need to bear this in mind at all times, as if - like me - you plan your cut first, you will then need to measure that distance to the left side to ensure the bit is cutting where you want it to. Measure twice, route once ;) Other top tips I've found are that it helps to position your router and guide plate so that the top edge is on your wood, but not so far that the bit is touching the edge of the wood, as otherwise if you start further away and 'slide' towards the material, the edge of the guide can catch the edge of that wood. Not complicated, but I'd advise having a play with some scrap just to get a feel for the measurements YOU need with your router (which may be quite different to mind, depending on your router). And of course you absolutely must clamp your rail in place to avoid it wandering when you start your cut, but you knew that, right? Overall, I recommend this adapter with my rail/router combination and can confirm that I get beautifully straight and even cuts. It is good value and I have no reason to think anything would or could go wrong with it. Some technical details: The rail I am using (and can confirm compatibility with) is the Bosch Professional FSN RA 32-800 guide rail, but I think this will work fine with other variations on the Bosch Pro FSN rail system. The palm router I am using is a Makita RT0702CX4/2 1/4" router.

Great item, it runs well along the track, it has made routing out rebates a lot easier.

Yeah, I mean decent enough quality, and does what it’s meant to do. I actually bought it for use on my Evolution tracks, which it was a little tight for. I few scoots of WD40 and working it along did improve a bit, but to be honest if you have the Evolution tracks I’d avoid. Works great with my shorter Makita track though.
