I wanted something that would detect any gas leaks in my caravan using Calor gas. I am very impressed with this instrument. Its very easy to use. Seems very sensitive to any small amounts of gas when I have tested it.Seems well made , good price and easy to use. Probably should have given it 5 stars .

It's good so if you smell gas or you think you have you can check all your gas pipes before the call the gas man

I might find that we've not put away an onion that was cut up, or when I opened the door the smell is outside. However, I do know that the kitchen has been remodelled in the house at least twice and that there was once a gas fire in the living room. An old gas pipe went from the fireplace through the back wall into the boiler room but it had been cut off. So I always think it's worth investigating when there is a gas smell just in case an old pipe somewhere has fractured.When you first switch on the Proster Gas Leak Detector it takes about 35 seconds before the detector is ready. What is not clear in the book of words is that during the instrument warm up it emits an intermittent beeping sound with the detector lights flashing. There is a mute button (a picture of a loudspeaker with a small x in front of it) which you can press and the beeping sound is silenced. After 35 seconds, it again beeps to let you know that it is ready.The book of words for the Proster Gas Leak Detector states; "always use the known gas to test the instrument before conducting unknown gas detection, ensuring that the instrument operates normally before use". That is what I precisely did. I used the detector on a cooker gas ring, and it worked (see Video).In the box, there is a pair of AA batteries, an instruction manual (the book of words), and a nice black velvet carry bag (with just about enough room to put in spare batteries and the manual as well as the detector).The detector works as it should, and is easy to operate, so it's thumbs up from me.

This is very simple to operate, you just need to switch on wait approx 30 second whilst it calibrates (will stop beeping when ready) and then put it next to any potential gas and the indicator will show any gas.It is well made and quite solid. I tested against all my gas devices and it didn’t detect any gas so I then switched on the gas on my cooker just to check and almost immediately it started beeping and the indicator showed it had detected gas.Does exactly what it is supposed to do and works well. Obviously if you want to check for gas leaks constantly then you would probably want to choose a detector that is always-on rather than this device which is for spot checking for gas leaks/presence. Gets bonus points for having 2 AAA batteries included in the package, so it's ready to be used!

I am delighted to add this gas detector to my household kit. It detects (apparently) 10 different types of gas to enable you to have peace of mind whether that is at home, workplace or in holiday accommodation.The functionality is very simple to use, you just pop the batteries in and then switch in on. After a few seconds it will detect any sort of gas in the atmosphere that is not supposed to be there. Now I am not saying my test to show this (standing in from of the hob without lighting the burner of escaping gas) was complex, but it did work and it WAS the type of gas I most likely to encounter. So that's good. I felt the time taken to register the escaping gas was reasonable and they have good the balance right between good sensitivity and ensuring it doesn't give false positives in the kitchen al the time. Would buy again and am thinking of getting one for an elderly relative who doesn't have the best sense of smell.If you have ever been that person walking up and down the block muttering "I think I can smell gas - is that gas? Many it is someone cooking..." then this is a great gadget for you because it allows you give your nose some much needed back up when it comes to sniffing out dangerous leaks.

This pocket-sized gas detector is a useful tool for detecting combustible gases in the air.From my tests, it seems sensitive and is able to reliably detect gas even without being set to the additional “sensitive mode”. When gas is detected, the device alerts with lights on the top and a loud alarm sound.It’s well-constructed and feels sturdy, although the body is only plastic. It operates on two AAA batteries which are included in the package and even comes with a drawstring bag for easy storage.There is an initial warm-up period when the device is first powered on during which it emits a series of loud chirps. Thankfully, this can be temporarily silenced with a dedicated muted button on the top of the device. However, this button does not mute the alarm during regular operation.This is probably my biggest complaint as it doesn’t always seem necessary to have loud noises if you’re already watching the LEDs for gas detection. No idea why the mute button doesn’t completely silence the alarm for the duration of us.Aside from that, this gas detector is a valuable safety tool to own for anyone who might encounter combustible gases. Recommended.

Tested on my gas stove, propane stove, gas container, isopropyl alcohol, ethanol, methane and it detected everyone of them. Great value for the price and in a size that can fit easily in a shirt pocket.

Das erste was mir nach der Zustellung und dem Auspacken durch den Kopf ging: Oha – das Teil ist ja superleicht. Und bringt ohne Batterien nur 37 Gramm auf die Waage und mit Batterien sind es dann 58 Gramm. Ein Satz passender Batterien vom Typ AAA ist im Lieferumfang enthalten, so dass man den Gasdetektor sofort in Betrieb nehmen kann. Auch die Abmessungen sind recht kompakt, daher lässt sich der Detektor wie ein etwas dickerer Kugelschreiber auch gut in einer Hemden-/Jackentasche mitführen.Vor dem Gebrauch empfiehlt es sich, einen Blick in die Bedienungsanleitung zu werfen. Diese enthält auch einen deutschsprachigen Abschnitt. Dann kann es losgehen. Nach dem Einschalten beginnt zunächst eine Aufwärmphase von ca. 35 Sekunden. Wahrend dieser Zeit leuchten die LEDs stufenweise auf, begleitet von einem Piepton, der bei Bedarf abgeschaltet werden kann. Ich lasse den Ton aber grundsätzlich eingeschaltet.Meinen Test habe ich mit unterschiedlichen Medien durchgeführt. Zunächst habe ich mit einem handelsüblichen Gasfeuerzeug getestet: Einfach nur BUTAN-Gas ausströmen lassen, ohne zu zünden.Danach ging es an den Gasgrill, um die Funktion in Verbindung mit PROPAN-Gas zu testen. Zum Schluss habe ich den Sensor auch noch über einer geöffneten Flasche mit reinem Alkohol getestet. In allen Fällen hat der Detektor zuverlässig innerhalb der versprochenen Ansprechzeiten von 2, bzw. 5 Sekunden optisch und akustisch gewarnt. Je höher die Gaskonzentration ist, umso schneller piept es und umso mehr LEDs leuchten auf. Insbesondere bei schwachen Konzentrationen ist es wichtig, mit hoher Empfindlichkeit zu arbeiten und den Sensor möglichst dicht an die Austrittsstelle zu bringen.Einen Test mit Erdgas konnte ich aktuell nicht durchführen, weil nichts ausströmt und die Heiztherme eine geschlossene Einheit bildet. Ich werde den Test bei der nächsten Wartung im Beisein eines Fachbetriebes nachholen.Fazit: Ein kleiner und leichter Detektor, der bei meinen Tests absolut zuverlässig funktioniert hat. Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis finde ich TOP und daher gibt es von mir 5 Sterne und eine klare Kaufempfehlung.

This leak detector is nice and compact and perfect for either home or professional use. The two sensitivity modes allow you to look for general leaks or try to pinpoint exact sources, and has accurately detected multiple different combustible gasses that I have tested (Butane, propane, natural gas). Whether you are hooking up a BBQ, gas stove, fire place, etc. This is a great little detector to give peace of mind and double check that there are no small leaks at your connection points, especially in hard to reach areas or spaces that are harder to rely on a liquid leak detector/spray, when moving or adjusting gas appliances to double check that the lines have not been compromised, or when hooking up old or potentially compromised appliances like outdoor bbqs. Doesn't take much space in a tool kit and is easy to carry in a pocket or tool belt on jobs as its comparable size to a large marker or a small flashlight.
