Difficult but rewarding transformer
Yes its difficult to transform and definitely not for small children, for any transformers fans old enoughh to remember the eighties it wont dissapoint. One of my fave purchases and still not bored of it after a whiole month (starnge for me). This now has pride of place in my bedroom, overseeing the place, ensuring any decepticons keep well away.LOVE IT!

Don't be fooled by it's good looks
I purchased Wheel Jack for my son who's a huge transformers fanatic, Once it arrived we took it out of the packaging. The packaging alone pulled off a door and another part which was hugely dissapointing, the transforming Wheel jack again resulted in plenty of parts falling off.Eventually once we decided to keep it as Car mode to save all of the hassle, it wouldn't stay securely together and the part that connect the roof to the backend (to stop it splitting in half) wouldn't do what it was suppose to. Wheel Jack was put onto Ebay a mere 2 days later through my son saying he didn't have the patience for it.I honestly don't think it's worth the money, time or hassle, unlike other transformers this is severely poor. Nice to look at but that's it.

poor
Wheeljack looks good in either car or robot modes. The transformation however, is very frustrating. I lost count of how many times parts have fallen off whilst trying to transform him. Doors, legs and arms have all come off, they pop straight back in but thats not the point, transformers are suppossed to be fun to transform, this one is just plain anoying. My son just keeps this in car mode now (as nothing can fall off, lol).

Challenging but Rewarding
Wheeljack is by FAR the most difficult of all Transformers I've ever tried. He is the only one besides RiD Ultra Magnus I've had to use the instructions for, but they are pitifully inadequate. His legs aren't too bad, but his upper body, holy cow! Take my advice and remove the doors (they come off and go back on extremely easily). Even then it's tough, and getting him back is even worse! I relished in the challenge, though, and have managed to become astute at getting him from one mode to the other. It feels strange to take pride in such an accomplishment, but I can't help it.His Mustang mode looks great though it can be tough to get everything lined up exactly right, and his robot mode is nothing less than impressive! His sword seems kind of stubby, though it actually looks like a sword which is not always the case with American Transformers. His white and blue paint job looks nice, and his head looks like the classic Wheeljack head. His legs look like they ought to be stiff and cumbersome, but they are actually very easy to pose. The doors can be annoying until you learn how to transform him properly (which is why I say take them off for now), and I had trouble with the piece that connects them to the shoulder. The screw kept falling out of mine (I super glued it finally) which can add to your pains although hopefully that's not common.Someone asked me once if these were still as fun as they used to be. With Wheeljack's level of difficulty I wouldn't call him "fun," but as a display piece he is virtually unrivaled! Definitely don't buy him for a child's toy.Availability sucks. I watched for a couple of weeks before I was able to place an order. Coming back to write this review I see that he's already unavailable again. Good look.

Great First Alternator
I missed the Alternator train when they first came out some years ago. I got back into collecting when the first Transformers live-action movie came out. While checking out Transformer review sites I stumbled upon the Alternators. "Wow! These are awesome!" I thought. Last year I started adding Alternators to my Amazon wish list but couldn't pull the trigger on buying one because of the price. Well, last month I finally took the leap and purchased my first Alternator. I don't think I could have made a better choice. Wheeljack is awesome! All of the Alternators are a 1:24 scale of the real vehicle. He's made of plastic (Binaltech, the Japanese equivalent are made of die-cast metal) so he's doesn't have that much heft. He's a pretty detailed 2005 Ford Mustang GT. His doors, hood, and trunk open up to reveal different levels of detailing from an engine that turns into a gun, to a pretty fleshed out interior. The robot mode is just as awesome. Transforming him from car to robot and vice versa is more complicated than other Transformer lines and can be a little tricky in the arms department. I don't think this is a toy for the kids. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to get the arms back into vehicle mode, and the manual is not very helpful. He has great poseability and looks great on display. He's given some G1 nods in his head mold and doors posing as wings. Again, an awesome Transformer. If you see him, buy him. You won't be sorry. Now, which Alternator is next on my wishlist?

Sold-out Again?
There is no way these are selling out this fast without greedy dealers buying mass quantities. That way it just makes the fans either miss out or have to pay outrageous prices from dealers or EBAY. The only way to strike back is to refuse to pay the greedy dealers and they will have to either discount the items or go out of business. I am so sick of not being able to find Alternators or other figures I like due to this.I was really looking forward to Alternator Wheeljack. I know he is basically the same as Alternator Grimlock (which I have so I think it entitles me to review this). The problems with the figure is that the arms fall off and the back piece in robot mode is annoying and the hood doesn't seem to stay attached to the center-piece. But overall the figure displays well and at least when pieces fall off you can re-attach them easily because of ball-joints and reattachable pieces.I finally have the original G1 Wheeljack and Energon Wheeljack but neither of them seems to do justice to the cartoon version in robot mode. I tend to look at the Alternator figures as the ultimate version of the character from the G1 cartoon.

More of a posable figure than a toy.
This is a great buy for those folks that grew up with the Transformers, but this is a terrable buy for parents looking for a toy for thier children. This character looks great in either vehicle or robot mode, the problem is getting it there. Its very difficult to "transform" Wheeljack into his robot mode, and changing him back into a car is a huge pain in the but. Expect the doors to detatch as you transform him. If you expect to be playing with this toy for some time, think about getting the metal Japanese version. As a display piece, he stands well, and his limbs articulate well for posing. The sword that comes with him seems out of place. If someone out there is feeling industrious, you may entertain the idea of creating a weapon for Wheeljack that fits his personality and role more appropriately. Maybe a large combination wrench that he can hold and attaches to him in vehicle mode the same way the sword does.
