SAY GOODBYE TO GREEN PARAKEETS AND GREY SQUIRRELS
If you live in the UK and have a problem with Green Parakeets and Grey Squirrels bullying smaller birds and stealing all the food, this is the bird feeder for you. I know it's not cheap (far from it), but it is really well built, has a high capacity and is infinitely adjustable. Small birds typically weigh in at around 20 to 30 grams. Green Parakeets are typically between 90 and 120. There is a weight adjustment column inside the food cylinder. It took me a while to get the setting just right (I didn't want our resident greater spotted and green woodpeckers to be shut out) and now it works perfectly. As I said earlier, I know it's a chunk of money to buy, but I can honestly say it's worth every penny. Love it.

Large, Sturdy and Stops Starlings and Squirrels
I love this feeder! Finally I have found a seed feeder that does what it claims to do. It holds loads of seed and is large and quite heavy when full, but this is a bonus for me. We live in the countryside and we get a huge variety of birds all of the time. This means that the feeders (even the very large 6 port affairs) are emptied really quickly, and so we are constantly refilling them. This is expensive and a nuisance, so we were looking for a capacious feeder that deters the Starlings (I don't mind the odd one or two, but hundreds is another matter), and the Grey Squirrels of course. This feeder can be adjusted using the central column, which is rotated clockwise or anti-clockwise to either increase or decrease the weight required to trigger the seed ports closing. This has meant that when we turned it to its most sensitive setting the Starling can't get a single seed (apart from younger, lighter Starlings). Fantastic! It is also totally impossible for the Squirrels to outwit. They have had many attacks on it and are so far failing miserably. We have sited it in a place where they can't reach it from below or the sides and that stops the little blighters effectively. The feeder is really long when hanging and I can see that it could be an issue if you don't have a suitable place to hang it, that is far enough off the ground to stop predators.I have attached a few photos to show it in action. The first shows a Great Tit enjoying a meal through the open ports. The second shows a Starling whose weight has closed the ports - what a shame! The third shows the seed-containing top part of the feeder to give a sense of its size.I also have the Squirrel Buster seed feeder which I have reviewed separately - not quite as effective against Starlings, but still pretty good - and works well against Squirrels, if that is your main enemy! It is dead easy to fill and clean since the top comes off with ease. I haven't found that much seed drops out, but obviously some birds spread more around than others. I'm always glad if some is spread underneath anyway to feed the Blackbirds and Dunnocks.I also found that the birds have taken to it really quickly. I have had many different Finches, Swallows, Tits, Reed Buntings and Woodpeckers so far.In summary, it might mean a 2nd mortgage to buy this feeder, but I'm saving time and money in not feeding the UK's population of Starlings, Corvids and Squirrels.Highly recommended!!

best ever bird feeder
This feeder is the best squirrel proof one I have had to date.I purchased a 16" hook that was recommended by Brome to use with the feeder.this proved to be good to hang high in our tree yet dangled down enough for us to view the birds. Making it difficult for a squirrel to access by the top. Then when he tried jumping onto it, it proved yet again to deter him as all the holes covered up. after a lot of tail flicking he gave up.As far as pigeons go, I haven't seen them even attempt to land on the feeder.I like the fact it holds 5lb of seed. Making re-filling less often. Although the birds seem to love this feeder much more than my other now and eat more than ever before. It is easy for them to land on and they seem happy being side by side.I like the clear tube as I can see when it needs refilling from the house. The fact it holds so much seed does make the feeder quite heavy, plus the fact because it is made of metal which adds to the weight. This is worth considering when hanging it up. I tried it on my bird station but it was so heavy it made the bird station lean to one side and I have mine anchored at the bottom too! Best option is hang in a tree or place on a wall bracket. This wouldn't put me off in the slightest. Its worth every penny and it looks really expensive and easy on the eye.

Baffled Pidgeons!
Wow - what a feeder!... This really does look like it means business!I was sick and tired of the squirrels & wood pigeons guzzling all the bird seed every day so although this feeder is rather expensive to buy initially, it will probably save me a fortune in bird food over the coming months!Extremely easy to set up - just waiting for the birds to start feeding on it now, as although it has been up for nearly a week, the birds still appear to be extremely suspicious of it!The wood pigeons (who had got very good at hanging off my old seed feeders) just look at it and I haven't seen any of them (or squirrels) even attempt to feed from it as yet.My only initial negative thought is its shear size - it's huge (and quite heavy) and needs something pretty sturdy to hang it from. I guess if you're going away though, you could fill it up and it'll last the birds a couple of weeks!I'm confident this feeder will resolve the problems I had with the greedy pigeons and squirrels!!

English Birds are not as smart as their American Cousins
I like the capacity of this feeder and its build quality is amongst the best, Then again it is not cheap. However I do find that not only do the birds have to get used to it but that they prefer to feed from the more traditional feeders first and then this unit when the others are depleted.Maybe I have silly birds but they seem to try and peck the seeds through the perspex without realising they need to land on the mounts and stick their heads in the feeding points. I took the ring off and this does improve matters somewhat.I like it and will persist but have traditional feeders as well.Update April 2017:Well after prolonged use I have to conclude this feeder is brilliant. Once the birds get used to it it is excellent. Very sturdy compared to most feeders. So upped stars to five now. Interestingly the big fat pigeons in my garden remain big and fat cos they collect the bits the little birds drop and stand on a nearby ledge and lean in. Clever pigeons.

Even better the starlings have all but given up
Although this is designed to stop squirrels, I decided to give it a go as I have major issues with hoards of starlings. It has been in place now for some weeks and it took a while for some of the birds to get used to it. But it is now as popular as the other feeders I have. Even better the starlings have all but given up. I get an occasional starling on the feeder, which I don't mind, (what is annoying is when they arrive mob handed and totally wipe out every bit of bird food in sight). So, although this is expensive, it has been worth it to me. Also because it holds so much seed I am not running out every other day to fill it up. Brilliant!!

Strong and sturdy but let down by the instructions
This is by far the best feeder I've ever used, but even so the price is steep for what you get. There is a colourful leaflet of instructions (paragraphs alternating between French and English) which tell you everything you need to know EXCEPT how to fill the thing. Eventually I found a slip of card with filling intructions that were actually wrong. It took me several attempts before I realised that the notches need to be at right angles to the yellow dot to open it and NOT aligned with it as the instructions claim. The included guide to garden birds would no doubt have been useful if I lved in the US, but not a single British bird is listed.

100% Squirrel proof.Exceptional build quality
This is the Best 100% squirrel proof seed feeder on the market. As a real plus it comes apart easily.Just stick it in the dishwasher for easy cleaning and reassembly and it comes out good as new. It has withstood our changeable Scottish weather for well over 18 months ,surviving gales, snow, frost ,hail and driving rain and still looks and is as good as new.In fact it is so well made I bought another Squirrel buster plus as well as the matching peanut and suet block feeder. The squirrel buster plus and associated range of squirrel buster products are expensive but do not be put off buying one as the money saved on cheap feeders and seed will make it cost effective in the long run. I can testify to their effectiveness and robustness. The squirrels clever wee things that they are, don't even try to get at the food these days as they know it is a complete waste of their time and energy. I should have bought them sooner as over the years we have wasted a small fortune on other flimsy non squirrel proof feeders that didn't survive the beasts or the weather.

Finally a truely squirrel proof feeder!! Several updates!
I have purchased this feeder about a week ago and I just love it. I'm back here to purchase 2 more. I live on 3 acres of wooded land and I have a ton of squirrels that have defeated every feeder I have ever tried. After a week they are still trying but they have not been able to beat this feeder! Easy to assemble, easy to fill and holds a lot of seed. After a week of heavy activity I still have 3/4 of the feeder still full.My woodpeckers are back and goldfinches which were a rarity are now a common site several times a day! I'm using the same high quality seed, but they just seem to like this feeder better. I thought they might be able to chew through the cylinder but so far so good. That this is covered for life makes it a worthwhile investment. I just wish I would have gotten one sooner...I would have saved a fortune in bird seed.I've never been cheap on my feeders...always getting the best of what I thought was available and this feeder is actually less expensive then the last one they destroyed so I feel it is well worth the money. I have yet to take it apart, clean it and put it back together...I only do that once a month. If I find any issues with that I will update and lower my stars.I plan I purchasing several more for holiday gifts.UPDATE: I've had the feeder for about 4 months now. The squirrels gave up after about a month and don't go near it anymore. I found that as long as I clean the feeders every month or so, the seed stays dry even though I don't keep the feeder in a covered area like an overhang. CLEANING: it's important to clean these feeders or else mold will accumulate by the feeding holes and can harm the birds. I found disassembling the unit very easy and although it can go in the dishwasher, it cleans so fast with hot water I just do it by hand. I know this next warning is wasted on the guys but I will say it anyway: GO TO THE YOU TUBE VIDEO on how to disassemble before you try to clean this or I promise you will regret it. Even though I had watched the video once I still forgot the trick about sticking your fingers in the feeding holes to release the tube for cleaning (when you see the video you'll understand). Once taken apart it is a snap to clean and very easy to put back together. Just go the the Brome site or do a youtube seach on “How to clean a Brome birdfeeder”. I can say I am more than happy with the money spent on this feeder, it was more than worth the price tag and I highly recommend it.UPDATE: well I've had the bird feeders for over a year now and they continue to work wonderfully. The squirrels have given up on them although occasionally they pop by to try to foil them but are unsuccessful. The birdfeeders remain in good working order and they are very easy to clean. These feeders are worth every penny I paid for them.UPDATE: OK, I don’t remember the year that I’ve purchased this but it’s been a long time. I’d have to say over five years… And I wanna say closer to 10, but I’m not sure. So after all of these years, the plastic cylinder that holds the seeds cracked. I called Brome and all they needed was my name and address and they sent me out replacement parts, including a couple of extras that I wasn’t sure about. All at no charge. This is why you spend the extra money for this feeder!UPDATE: OK so I just checked the date and I bought this feeder originally in 2016 so it’s nearly 10 years old as I thought. The parts came but I didn’t think they fit, so I called customer service. That woman stayed on the phone with me for over 20 minutes and walked me through what I was doing wrong until I had the entire feeder back together! This is why you pay the money for this feeder, 10 years old and she treated me like I had just bought it last week! It just doesn’t get any better! The second photo is of the feeder now nearly 10 years old with the new replacement parts.

Loved it so much bought a 2nd as a gift - well worth the extra money
2020 review: 5 years later and I still own this which is amazing. Any other bird feeder I owned before would last about a year (or less) before the squirrels ate through it. About a week ago, we think a racoon jumped onto our feeder at night and it broke the ledge the birds sit on. I thought it was "garbage" but after realizing the price of this (more than what I paid 5 years ago) I decided to attempt to repair it and it's working fine. I did decide to add the "weather guard" for the winter which I think will help to keep both squirrels and raccoons. The point, this feeder lasts and while a bit pricey, I have had mine for 5 years which is amazing.2015 review: My wife and I bought this 2 weeks ago and we love it; it works exactly as others have described and I have watched a few squirrels attempt to get onto it but it's too fat for them to slither down. They have now resorted to picking up the scraps that the birds leave them below and all of the birds have returned to my backyard. .As a note, prior to two weeks ago when I got this, I had a similar looking inferior (not this) product I picked up for $20 at a local garden store. The birds loved it at first but once the squirrels figured it out, the birds disappeared not to return. It was essentially a squirrel feeder and we like many others spent too much of our time trying to discourage the squirrels, creating booby traps etc...... but they always won and we kept filling up the seed every few days.Prior to that my mother bought her two grandchildren (my kids) each an old school bird feeder but the squirrels ate a hole in them and they look bad now.I am so happy w/this; it’s a bit pricier than some, but well worth the extra money and reduced stress. I have just purchased a 2nd for my in-laws as I previous glass one we purchased recently broke (again by the squirrels).

Robust and effective
Very fast shipping. The feeder is extremely well made. Clear instructions for use and cleaning. The first chickadee landed on it less than five minutes after it was filled and hung. There is a steady stream of birds at it. Recommended.
