so stuffed toys like these last for some time
We have two Autism service dogs, they are Aussies. VERY high energy and smarter than me I think sometimes! Even though they are working dogs when their service vests are on, the minute those come off, they are just a normal dog...who needs LOTS OF EXERCISE AND MENTAL STIMULATION. They are trained not to ever "bite", so stuffed toys like these last for some time. No joke, we got these for them for Christmas (this year, it's now 12/19/16) and they keep UNWRAPPING them!!! Literally! They have found every squeaker, shaker and quacker/honker on this sweet hedgehog. They start by pressing their noses on the "elusive hedgehog shaped wrapped gift" under the tree. When they find the hedgehog, out they drag it and the two of them tag team till it's unwrapped. Then one of them grabs it and runs with the other in hot pursuit. I don't think they've ever done this with any other toy...it's gotta be the quacking/honking sound as opposed to the high pitch squeak of typical dog toys. They love them!

Best toy ever!
3 months ago I adopted a retired racing greyhound and he's adjusting to home life very, very slowly. It's been a very tedious process trying to get him to come out of his shell, but I have on occasion caught him playing with stuffed toys that squeak. I ordered this cute hedgehog in hopes that he would be encouraged to play and I cannot believe just how much my hopes came true! The second I took the hedgehog out of the box, he was very curious. I was pleasantly surprised! For one, the hedgehog is even larger than I imagined, which is great for an 82 pound dog. Secondly, he grunts and squeaks VERY easily with minimal pressure applied to him AND his little feet make a sort of crinkly noise which is also intriguing to most dogs. And third, he's incredibly well made and durable! My greyhound immediately grabbed the hedgehog out of my hands and took him over to an area rug and went to town playing with it. I could NOT believe what I was seeing - it was by far the most out of his shell I have ever seen him. I literally nearly cried tears of joy seeing him so happy and in the moment. He played with Mr. Hedgehog for well over 15 minutes, which is nearly unheard of in terms of a lazy greyhound. Especially considering the most I'd ever seen him play with anything was less than 5 seconds. He had the time of his life tossing the hedgehog up in the air and making him grunt and squeak any way he could. The best part was, after a quick 30 minute nap, he was back at it and played with his new friend on and off all evening. In fact, last night I woke up to a "grunt grunt grunt, squeak squeak!" I didn't even care that it was 3 in the morning, I was just so thankful that he's finally showing signs of being happy and comfortable! I have honestly tried countless stuffed toys and nothing grabbed his attention like the hedgehog did. This morning I woke up and he was sound asleep in his dog bed using his hedgehog friend as a pillow! Seriously, the best 11 dollars I've ever spent aside from his adopted fee! I'm sure I will be buying more of these in the future. :)

Best. Toy. Ever. Hedgehog For the Win!
This is the best stuffed dog toy I've ever bought. My dog has had a whole barnyard of stuffed animals over the years: donkey, duck, goose, rabbit, squirrel, bear, dinosaur, and probably others I can't remember. Once I gave him hedgehog though, he totally ignored the rest. I almost feel bad for them. This toy isn't really meant to withstand a lot of abuse, so I would steer clear if your dog likes tearing stuff apart. My dog is a Labrador and generally babies his toys. He doesn't try to rip the stuffing out, he just chews at the hedgehog's feet some. The size and shape of this toy are great for big dogs. It's packed with a lot of stuffing and is just the right size to fit in my dogs mouth comfortably. It acts like a muffler when he starts barking. If the doorbell rings and he starts freaking out, I just tell him to "go get hedgehog" and his loud barks turn into rumbles once he has hedgehog in his mouth. The noise this thing makes when you squeeze it is pretty great too. It's less of an annoying squeak and more of a honk. Good stuff.I really can't recommend this toy enough. It's well constructed, lasts a long time, and, most importantly, the dog loves it!

His Favorite Toy
This is the second hedgehog I've purchased from this manufacturer. The first one (purchased from a pet store) made it 8 months. Unfortunately, this one started losing stuffing from a hole in it's face within one month. I doubt it was shoddy workmanship, it was more likely that I have a very playful greyhound and this is the first toy he grabs for...EVERY TIME. Based on it's cost, and interactive qualities, I still find this product a good deal...even if I had to replace it four times annually. My favorite thing about this toy is that the rattle and the grunt sound are the primary functions. I HATE squeaky toys since the hound is so aggressive with the chewing. It's no coincidence that the squeaker is in the hedgehogs face...hence the hole...and stuffing loss.I would have given it five stars if I could have found it for $9.99, which is how much I paid for the first one at PetSmart last Christmas that held on for 8 months.

Perfect for our 50 lbs. lab mix
I ordered this to replace our dog's old "baby" that had been excised of its limbs and eyes and tail by our lab mix. The 'grunter' truly is less annoying than squeakers. Our dog seems to enjoy the grunting noise more so than old squeaker toys, too. The hedgehog has been with her constantly for the last 3 days and has gotten a lot of love from our mutt. No signs of any wear yet. Probably one of the more durable plush animals we've had. Even better than the Eddie Bauer Steiff bear she last destroyed, and this was SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper. BUT, if you have an overly destructive dog, I'd recommend avoiding plush toys altogether.*** 5 months later, there is a hole in the toy so I am replacing it... with the exact same toy. We were very pleased with how well it held up to ours dogs daily abuse. ***
