Amazing for softwoods, not really for joinery.
Sorting out which Gyokucho ryoba to buy is a bit of a headache if you can’t read Japanese. I can’t either. This 655 270mm model is spectacular for cutting softwoods and is a little coarse for small joinery work and hardwoods. If you want to make long cuts in pine or cedar, or even if you want a sweet all around hand saw for the construction site this saw will impress you. Cuts straight, cuts fast, and seems to cut better the less effort you put into it. I love mine and intend to buy more gyokucho saws as projects demand it. The quality is excellent.

Great saw!
Overall a great saw. Good construction and cuts quickly. By design, the teeth are much farther apart, and this makes the angle of attack important when cutting. If you find it catching on the cut, then change the angle you are hitting the kerf with.

Fast, Accurate Cuts With Minimal Effort.
This saw is fantastic! It is easy to make very accurate cuts with either the cross cut or rip side of the blade. It cuts fast. The pull to cut motion is easy to get used to and requires minimal effort. The kerf is very thin. No need to sharpen it, replacement blades are cheaper than paying to have a regular saw sharpened.

Oh how I love my Japanese saw from Gyokucho!
I bought this for myself after having purchased my first which was ahttp://www.amazon.com/Gyokucho-Double-RazorSaw-Hardwoods-Woodworker/dp/B00BSQUD5C/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1436171789&sr=1-1&keywords=Gyokucho+9-1%2F2"+Double+Edge+%28Ryoba%29+RazorSaw+from+Japan+WoodworkerI instantly feel in love with style saw. And I liked the first Gyokucho so much so that I have purchased 3 total now. I got thehttp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BSQUARI?redirect=true&ref_=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_56as a gift for my brother. He feel in love with mine too and enjoys his very much so. Said it was the best present I gave him in a while.I have to say I really like the way I can buy replacement blades. This is why I didn't go with others. The replacement blade for this one can be bought for under 27$ right now with free shipping. As I am sure the handle will be out lasting the blade I thought this only made sense.Often even though I have many power tools I go this saw only because it's so fast and convenient and doesn't throw the dust all over. Well I am sure there is some fine dust it does but nothing like any power tool. I mean By the time you are getting out your skill saw and plugging in the extension cord you had to get out I will already be 1/2 through cutting on a 2X4. Love it Love it.I have used it to cut huge logs of many types too.

Quality Performance.
These are sharp, accurate saws made of good steel with a nice narrow kerf & fast cutting action. This is a slightly larger version of the more popular Gyokucho Razorsaw that is 9.5" long. It has a slightly coarser cut, & is made for cutting typical 2X4 lumber rather than finer finish cuts. Be aware that the teeth are literally razor sharp, after my spouse used mine, it came back with blood stains.

Nothing bad to say
Since many years I use Japanese pull saws exclusively. This one works very well, cut easily and straight. Price is a bit higher than in japan but traveling to Japan to buy one would be more expensive for me and where I live nobody sells these. I cannot comment on versatility or easy to use as I have been using these for years and at the beginning I had some training but if you are completely new to this kind of saw and you are used to Western saws I think you will find this easier to use. I am talking only of its intended use in woodworking.

Cutting blade works with ease
Disliked the handle. Not enough grip.
