No, it will be perfect! My Pekingese / Maltese mix is 9 lbs and she is comfortable expanding and contracting the cord.

I use the mediums for my 22 lb Cairn Terrier and 13 lb Yorkie and they are perfect. When dog sitting I have used them on a 45 lb lab mix with no issues.

I have a 10 lb. dog and the harness is XS -- no problem getting the leash around the 2 D-rings. Not sure if it would fit around a larger dogs harness, though.

Buy a MOGOKO seat belt securement. It's 10 bucks and Iuse it for this exact purpose. Attach it to the end of the retractable leash and no worries!
