Very good thread, after getting used to its characteristics.
Very good thread, after getting used to its characteristics. I’m making lace for Christmas. I have a brother NQ 1700 E. I set the thread tension to -6, and use a very long netting. The thread is highly twisted and always needs some tension to prevent kinking. The thread seldom breaks, but requires re-threading When using needles for metallic thread because it pulls out of the large needle eyes At the automatic thread cutting Or jump stitches. I only fill the bobbin to about 3/4 full. It has good luster and is quite strong for my needs.

Fantastic value
These look a little expensive but the amount of thread included in there is astronomical (6 1/4 miles of each). The quality is superb and rendering is spectacular. I had no problems using these for logos on a SE400 with standard needle and bobbin thread. The spool is way too large for the machine, so it's a good opportunity to purchase a cone thread holder if you don't already have one. Fantastic value. [UPDATE] The silver thread has been finicky, at times causing me to break several needles on a single piece -- until I found out about Sewer's Aid . No more frustration and broken needles! The pieces I made with these metallic threads received lots of compliments. These spools would be at the top of my recommendations list for new embroiderers. Another recommendation I wish I had sooner: Metallic needles ! Highly recommended. Make sure you buy them if you buy this great metallic thread!

Inconsistent results.
Silver - Used the Superior Thread Holder with a tension of 1, but could also use a serger thread stand. Had to make about 40 FSL stars. Thread still twists, but I rethreaded between stars. Gutermann and Superior metallics were constantly breaking. Not sure if this is better quality, or the cones just work better. First slow bobbin winding snapped thread. Gold- nothing but problems with breaking threads. One 4x4 star would have 5 or more breaks. So frustrating. Couldn't even load a full bobbin before thread twisted and snapped. Even tried thread net, but it didn't help.

(UPDATE) No so Horrible thread. Worked out using a weird but good way to get great results.
Bought this thread thinking it would be of good quality and when I received it I was a bit taken back from the cardboard spool it came on. Then after changing my needles and many times getting the right setting on my embroidery machine this happen. It started to come off the spool! It frays a lot but I have this weird but great method of getting great results. See video for my method. I use 90/14 needles and do some test piese to get the right tension and settings. If you want something better don't buy this tread. It's cheap but with the right methods you can get some great results.

Great when used on something other than a serger, such as hand stitching.
Shreds too easily when it goes through the serger. Works great on the sewing machine even though the needles are the same size. Had to fiddle with the tensions on the serger constantly and couldn't find a combination that worked. I must have gone through twenty yards of gold thread trying to make it work on the serger but eventually had to give up and only use it for straight stitches, which is really too bad because the color was perfect and it looked fantastic in the twelve or so inches that came out perfect before it bound up again. I can't count how many times I had to re-thread the serger with these. And I don't use a self-threading serger so that meant nearly ten minutes each time it shredded. I should have just purchased the higher quality thread and saved myself the time.

Really has a metallic gold look
This thread is much finer than I thought it would be but through learning how to work with it I have come to love it. It is not cottony or a soft thread. It feels a little like a very fine wire or filament. I think it might be comparable to a 50wt thread in thickness. This makes it a little stiff but still flexible as it is spun with nylon inside. I bought it for hand embroidery so I have no problems with breaking or fraying. There is alot on the cone so it will last me forever unless I do a very large dense couple of projects. I find it works really well when two or three lengths are cut to use as strands along with cotton or polyester thread as embroidery floss. It couples with any colour nicely to make any colour shine or gleam depending on how many threads are used. My only problem is that it can slip off the cone completely if you hold it upside down by accident. This is fixable by putting a rubber band at the top part of the cone to prevent it sliding off. Would buy it again if I ever ran out.

good strong thread
This thread is very strong, and on a very large cone. You will need a large cone holder, and some type of thread control (i.e. netting). If this thread becomes tangled the needle will break before the thread does (don't ask me how I know) It is also a very fine thread. I have used it for some decorative stitches and the result was really dramatic. Because it is so fine it works well as a fill color in machine embroidery. I did have trouble using my automatic threader on my machine with this thread, because it has a stiffness to it, it doesn't form a small enough loop to go through the eye of the needle, but because of this stiffness it is easy to hand thread the needle. I am really pleased with this purchase.

Probably wouldn't buy again.
Colours are nice and shiny but the quality is weak. Knots too easily and I'm an experienced designer.
