Still the Best
This is still a great reel that keeps up and performs like any new reel on the market today. It is one of the smoothest reels ever. The Daiwa Black and Gold series is a fantastic product.

I am a fishing guide in Fort Myers FL, I use these reels exclusively in the 1300 size for inshore species and can not say enough GREAT things about them. They outcast any reel I've had including stradics etc. and will handle 15lb redfish 20lb jacks and even small tarpon. Great reels worth every penny and bulletproof they don't break.

Standardizing on these high value performers.
I bought the SS 700 for a Med Light 7'6 Ugly Stick Elite rod w. 6 lb test mono line and a SS1300 for a Med Heavy 7'6 St. Croix rod with 20lb braid and both match perfect - cast a mile, awesome drags, solid performance, smooth reeling - perfect for walleye, northern, trout, salmon, all the mid/large freshwater species. I am standardizing on these reels. Wish they had a 500 for my 6'6 ultralight rod!

Old reliable
I think this reel is great for what it is. An extremely reliable reel. Great for taking back country. Never worry about it failing when in remote locations. I WISH it had an instant anti reverse. I wont buy another because I think for around 100 bucks you can buy a better reel these days. I would place the value of this reel with its outdated technology at around $59 bucks.

Top of the line
I have used these reels for the last 25 years. I am surprised that Diawa continues to make this product because most manufacturers discontinue good products for some strange reason. This reel will handle a 25 pound redfish with ease. I use 30 lb. test Spider wire and a Diawa 7 ft. SS Northcoast Spinning Rod for Louisiana red fish and speckled trout. Doesn't get any better than that combination.Note this Diawa reel in the left of the picture

I just really enjoy stuff that works
I just really enjoy stuff that works, and this does. Super strong drag for its size, and the casts are exactly like you've heard, even with decent mono-filament line. Packaging was ok, but real was in good shape, so no issues there. Very happy and satisfied.

My favorite reel in over 50 years fishing
My favorite reel in over 50 years fishing. Perfect medium weight for trout, bass, panfish. Its smooth and casts a mile.Has anti reverse and a great drag. The handle is reversible and folds up for transport. Love this reel!

Great real.
I really like this real, bought 2 of them. I noticed the one negative review said it doesn't have an anti-reverse. Both of mine have anti-reverse.
