Twenty Terrific Twangies / Water Skiing

Excellent CD and great transaction.

The early rockers that Duane first did, those that were issued here on the London label, I always considered to be his best. He was popular enough with the instrumental guitar-based fraternity to have a whole string of hits too. His bass-sounding instrument tuning and special distortion amp produced a new sound in its day (later to be copied by ex Shadow Jet Harris whose instrument was actually a bass) and in later recordings Duane's producer had strings and vocal choruses added, as well as bluesy piano and raunchy sax. At times Duane also resorted to just acoustic guitar, or a 12 string, or even banjo, all in an effort to differ, develop and expand his sound still further -- move with the times if you like. His themed albums covered folk, country, girl's names and both the surfing sound and dance crazes, but never struck it really big. This selection covers two albums of perhaps the best of this later work before he turned to different producers on various labels in more later years, the likes of McCartney, Richard Hawley and others. I know what I like, but you suit yourself!
