Crash: The Great Depression and the Fall and Rise of America

Great history book for young adults (and older ones too!)
Our son’s 6th grade ELA teacher picked this book for the class. I am often skeptical of mandatory school readings, I like to read with my son and most of the time dread their choices. Not this time! Crash is a fabulous history book challenging enough for young reader that will captivate adults as well. The story is entertaining, connecting complex topics with personal stories and plenty photographs. The recession and Stockmarket crash are not easy topics to cover. I have learned so much! I am a big fan and will look forward to more books by Mr Favreau.

Wonderful
Crash is accessible to young readers, 6th grade and above. Books the likes of Crash and Steve Sheinkin's young readers books are the better alternative to dry school textbooks. Crash lists all of its written sources, and includes a rich section on relevant audio and visual resources. Crash tells history as it should be told-truthfully. Students today are lucky to have Crash - an engaging, interesting, provocative and thoughtful source on an era which is key to understanding the America of today.

Well-paced, informative, and moving
Crash is an excellent book that covers not only the Great Depression but America in general in the 1930s. (The book also includes an array of fascinating photos.) I learned so much from this well-paced, informative, and moving work. Kudos to the author for also addressing the history of marginalized communities during this time period. Highly recommended to readers of all ages.
