Good little clock radio, I'd buy another if needed
Not sure what the beef is with this clock radio. Yeah, the buttons are black and hard to read unless you get up close in good light, but after you use it everyday you'll quickly figure out which to press without having to see anything. Also, the volume control does go down to a real low level, so don't understand why people are saying it's too loud. When I plugged it in it set itself but was 10 minutes off. However, this was easily fixed with the manual time set. Previous versions of this smartset clock would not allow you to change time, so this is a great feature. The radio sounds pretty dang good for the size of the clock. The only feature I didn't expect was in alarm/radio mode, the radio starts off soft and steadily gets louder. So it doesn't just turn on and blast you awake. May not be good for those sound sleepers that want to get blared at to wake up. Didn't see an option to to turn this feature off. The two alarm feature is good for separating out work days vs. weekends. The white LEDs are a nice change from the old school red and blue LEDs. All in all this is a great little clock radio for me.

Definite maybe
I hated having to purchase a new alarm, theres so many options to choose from. I ended up getting this product as I needed a dual alarm, stayed that it was loud, and your able to change the brightness.I liked the look of the product as it was sleek and not bulky. However since it is theres not a button for specific options. Thus causing you to read the instructions quite a few times to get used to.Would I purchase it again? Its a definite maybe.

It's okay, but my old Emerson was better.
I bought this to replace an older Emerson that was upwards of 10 years old. The old unit had switch for just about every function, and was very easy to use. Unfortunately it's snooze function stopped working as did it's ability to reliably activate the alarm when it was supposed to, which is an important feature of an alarm clock. This new one has both good and bad qualities. The Good- The digital tuner is nice- The USB ports are handy- It has bluetooth, though the audio quality isn't very good anyway- It's easy to cycle through alarm types- The SmartSet feature works as advertised, but it's not something that's really unique anymore. The Bad- Feels cheaply made, it's light- Instead of of having individual switches to activate and set different alarms, you have to go through very vague "menus", don't throw away the instructions- You can't cut off the display, it has four brightness settings, even the lowest one is a bit too bright in an otherwise dark room. My previous alarm clock's display could be set to off be default only turning on when the alarm went off or if you waved your hand in front of it.- No AC outlet on the back, you get USB ports, but an actual outlet would be more useful.Overall it's okay, at $30 it's a little pricey for what it is and what you get though

It works.
The clock works well, but....1) When you set the time zone the clock will always know the time and reset itself after a power outage or for Daylight Savings time. I live in Hawaii and set the clock for Hawaii Standard Time. We don't have Daylight savings time so there is no need to change the clocks. Well, this morning I had one clock that was an hour different from the rest - this one! It changed for Daylight savings time automatically, but it didn't need to. I have to change the clock to a different time zone setting to get the correct time.2) I bought this clock for the Bluetooth speaker to listen to audiobooks. Honestly, the sound quality is not that good. I was able to buy some very reasonably priced speakers on Amazon (Bugani brand) and the sound is much better.

Super disappointed.
Received this clock radio yesterday to replace the SmartSet Emerson I’ve had for probably 12yrs.Set itself correctly at first but when I unplugged and moved it the time defaulted to 12:00am. It also didn’t keep the saved radio stations after being unplugged. So disappointed. Had high hopes this would be another great clock radio. Returning after just 1 day.

Great radio with usb ports.
This is a great radio. The usb ports are so helpful. It does take some getting used to the programming, but otherwise love this item. Even on lowest setting, the volume is loud. We just placed a koozie or notebook over the speaker part and that solved that issue.

Too bright and loud
I decided to buy this model clock radio because it had the features that I wanted and it had a a four level dimmer. Other models I looked at had only two levels and were way too bright. Unfortunately, the lowest of the dimmer levels is at least twice as bright as I want. If I wanted a night light or to read the clock from across the room it would have been ok. Anyway, one issue. Then the volume level of the radio at its lowest level is about twice as loud as desired. The old clock radio died after 35 years...rip. That one had variable dimmer and volume (sound) controls. Apparently, no one has those anymore. There are times I need to wake up without waking my wife and the light is too bright for sleep. I didn't see any reviews that mentioned those two issues... so ... I guess I must be unique. Otherwise, the sound is ok, with one speaker and the presets are ok. Oh yeah... one other issue. I live in Arizona where we don't go to daylight savings. The auto day and time sets to Eastern time. Other areas must manually set to a different time zone and most of the Mountain time zone is on daylight saving time... so I have to use the Western setting and change it twice a year. Kind of defeats the benefits of the auto feature for me. It's not worth sending back since I didn't see or missed anything that fits all my requirements. The main purpose of the review is to help those who may have similar requirements and possibly developers that would fix the deficiencies in the future. need to add one more thing... most of the buttons are flush with the top of the radio so they are hard to hit the right one if you're setting an alarm in the dark, for instance.

Good alarm clock
The unit is very pleasant. It has all the features I was looking for. Originally, I thought the electronic volume level, at the first notch, was pretty loud, therefore, I have soldered in a 50 Ohms 1/2 watt resistor in series with the red wire on the speaker. Thus far the V01 level (Indicated Volume Level) is adequate and if it is not I can always put a book on it.

Great small size radio with latest Bluetooth technology.
Easy to operate. Set 2 alarms that work fine. Blue tooth paired with my iPhone easily. Sound is OK at this low price.

bright, loud radio
The lowest setting of the display is a bit too bright, the lowest setting of the sound is a bit too loud, the buttons on top of the radio are engraved black on black, so they can't be read in the dark.I was able to put something on top of the single speaker to reduce the sound, able to colour the display with a Marker to dim it & used white paint to highlight the buttons so they can be read.FM reception is good and the sound is ok

Good value.
I have not had any problems operating this clock radio. Another reviewer complained that there was “no volume control. This is not true. The volume buttons are at the left end of the top row of controls, they are the < and > buttons. Only downside is that the volume controls are not incremental: volume goers up or down at pre set levels that may not be the volume levels you want.

Display broke after 8 months only. Volume control bad
Purchased November, display digits broken in July next year. Emerson only gave 90 days warranty so out of luck.Volume control quite bad, lowest level is still quite loud, and since digital, so no more finer reduction possible.
