Sharp XEA407 Advanced Reporting Cash Register

Upon receiving this item I found it very difficult to set it up properly because information was missing from the booklet and proper information on setting this unit up was missing online. I reached out to sharp after spending around $400 on this cash register they wanted to charge me $20 for technical support on the phone. This is not how you treat customers that just bought into your product. Could understand if I had it for a couple of years!

This register is nothing but a headache! Took a while to set up, then worked for a few days before constantly giving us error messages. Couldn’t find the answer in the joke of a manual, so I called customer service. $20 later they solved the issue but they actually charge you for solutions not covered in their manual. I won’t purchase another Sharp. Returning this as soon as I find a replacement.

The register itself is doing fine. You could be very basic in your needs with it and quickly pick it up its operation. However, I have been reading through the instructions manual and it is rather dense. It gives a myriad of possibilities in entering amounts, PLUs, etc. For a regular store I could see this being needed. We are a small operation and don't require a ton of barcodes or departments. The main reason we bought it was for the journal tape to help keep track of checks and balances every day, instead of doing it by hand. This has been helpful. I also like that you don't have to print receipts. However, if a guest needs one, you can print reprint and it will print the last transaction! My main hangup so far is giving the numbered departments an actual name. I still haven't found that yet in the manual. I may just have to tape something to the top of the department head keys. I'm sure we'll figure out something. Also has a power "sleep" function which helps preserve the display life. Overall, we're not disappointed in it.

I've used sharp registers in the past. This newer model is fine as long as you don't need product support, and for the most part, you won't. The programming is fairly straightforward. But, the very idea of having to pay $20.00 to just call for product support for a new product is outrageous. I could understand it if they gave you a short grace period, and then started charging for additional support. I might understand it if their website actually had information to help you. It doesn't. So, good product, bad company policy.

The buttons are super sensitive to precision touch. When you are not hitting the buttons perfectly in the middle the register beeps error messages at you. This is devestating to your emotional well being if you are using this all day everyday like I do. It is more than just a little annoying. Also, if you have more than 3 minutes between transactions the register goes into “off” mode. This means you have to hit any button to get it going THEN begin your transaction. Not a big deal but dealing with it all day and not being able to bypass this mode is also very annoying.

Our cash register is less than 2 months old. It no longer keeps the correct date or time. Every morning we have to change the date. The time does not advance. For example it I set it to 8:30am it remains 8:30 am all day long.I tried tech support. They suggested I change the batteries. I did. No change. There only offer of help was for me to mail it back to them - it takes 3-5 days. They try to fix it - might take a week. And then another 3- 5 days to mail it back to me. Meanwhile I my small not for profit has no way to record our sales from our used book store. Terribke customer service!

This register was very confusing to set up. there was NO software provided, you have to download it. It did NOT work, and when i called Sharp they tried to get $20 from me to answer questions that I shouldn't have to be asking if there download had worked. Terrible customer service. Will NEVER buy a Sharp again.

Set up for this cash register was simple and easy, programming it has been simple as well, done most of the programming without even reading the manual. Register is fairly quiet, works well so far. Cash and coin drawer are perfect size and well made, love the feature that the "slip" pocket on the front of the drawer for large bills or checks goes under the coin box and is contained in the entire cash drawer and that it doesn't just go in the bottom of the drawer itself for something to accidentally get lost. Seems to be a better product than I was expecting, definitely recommend!
