excellent watch! I have had a G-Shock solar/auto time ...
excellent watch! I have had a G-Shock solar/auto time calibration (model PAW-5000) for several years. I was looking to upgrade the watch and found these GPW-1000 hybrid GPS/calibration/solar power watches, and I jumped on one immediately. I always like my auto time-calibration watch, but when I traveled, I still had to switch the watch to that time zone (not a straight-forward process on that watch by any means!), and sometimes the overnight calibration signal would not pick up if I couldn't get the watch resting on a west facing window overnight. That is no longer an issue. I can just walk outside, anywhere I am in the world, and grab the exact time via a GPS signal. In my home area of the midwest, I find it takes between 15-20 seconds to lock on the accurate time. Plus I still have the terrestrial overnight calibration signal from Ft. Collins to keep the watch consistently up to date. It's a HUGE watch and that's great as I have about an 8" wrist. Lug to lug, it reaches all the way across my wrist. I like the fact that those silly sensors are not on this watch (temp, altimeter, barometer). I just never had any need for these, and the temp can never be right as long as you are wearing the watch....This is a watch for folks who either require dead accurate timekeeping at all times, or folks like me who are just kind of OCD about having accurate time. The watch will do stopwatch and countdown timers, but I think their use is negligible since you are working with an analog device, and this operations run off the very very small inner dial....trying to set a countdown for 95 seconds, for example is difficult to get it exact.....but a minor quibble. I great looking, extremely well built piece that guarantees accurate time wherever you are, and it's almost effortless. Well done, Casio!

I love this watch!!!!!
This is by far one of my favorite purchases I've ever made. The watch looks very nice and did not seem as large as other reviewer's may lead you to believe. I do have a rather large wrist and it fits very nicely on. I love the GPS function since I live where you cannot get the atomic signal. Upon receiving the watch I attempted to sync the time and position but was unable to because of adverse weather for a few days. Thus I initially had to set the time manually until today when I was able to get clear enough sky's to get a good GPS signal. this watch once upon your wrist does not feel heavy at all if you are used to their larger watches such as the Mud master or Rangeman. I love the class this watch adds to my collection and was just what I was looking for while still being rugged and functional. My only complaint is that the knobs on the top and bottom spin freely and can be a bit annoying, I may see if this can be tightened. but over all I love this watch and would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice watch to add to their collection.

... Tritium for its glow in the dark hand markers like the Navy seal watches do
Casio needs to start using Tritium for its glow in the dark hand markers like the Navy seal watches do. That's the only reason why I knock this back one star. The reflective hands are almost nonexistent.Other than that it is a very nice watch that looks well on your wrist. I ordered three of them from Amazon with different color bands/bezels. One was a 'Japan' version and the other two weren't. All three watches had the exact same bezels on the back side writing that they were all made in Japan. I've since learned that as of November 2015 all watches of this particular GPS model are in fact manufactured in Japan.

Great watch, Accurate Time
I travel internationally frequently. No need figuring out what time it is wherever I arrive. No need to worry about missing a connecting flight. Great that it receives radio signals too. I bought a Seiko Astron GPS watch prior to this purchase. The Casio is bigger than the Seiko. Cool that it has a night light and automatically adjusts for DST, (the Seiko doesn't do this.) Even though it's a G-Shock, careful if you drop it, it may throw the calibration off, according to the manual. (That happened with my Seiko, prompting the purchase of the Casio.) Purchased through Discount Watch Store, (not currently available on their store here on Amazon,) they do NOT provide a Stamped Warranty Card. The invoice is the proof of purchase if warranty service is needed. I'm now seeing a 2-yr warranty for this watch provided my Amazon. (This was not available when I made my purchase.) My only Con: The watch strap was not to my liking. Replaced it with a Casio semi metal strap.

This G-Shock is the best one yet, until it breaks, less than a year later, and can't be repaired!!
This G-Shock is the best one yet! True it is a large watch, but the strap will go over clothes or wet set..accurate by design, you can easily read the face, made for the blind, I'm 63 !! Works well, takes some figuring to understand settings. Would buy again, I've had several G-Shocks in the past, this one is king of them all !!12/9/15 UPDATE, well it's been less than a year ( purchased 1/21/15) and the ole watch decided not to sync up anymore, and provide the correct time, the GPS doesn't seem to work and or the atomic timing or maybe the sync itself isn't working, I sent it off to Asurion the Amazon 3rd party warranty house, they provide a 2 year warranty, they sent me a UPS shipping label and we'll see if it can be repaired..might take up to 6 weeks, Stay tuned1/6/16 So I called Asurion and they said they could not repair the watch, they don't have the part, even though they had told me it was sent to Casio repair yesterday !! Now they want to provide me with an Amazon credit of the purchase INSTEAD of crediting the visa card I used to purchase it. I don't want a Amazon credit worth $699.95 , I would have wanted the charge reversed on to the credit card I had used to but it !!! Oh well1/7/16 well finally spoke with the watch repair people who would/could not fix the watch due to not having the GPS chip for it, they did say that most of these new GPS fitted watches usually don't last, a product too early and not proven to last, so I would not buy another GPS fitted watch for some years yet..remember it just stopped syncing up with the correct time, no damage was done to cause this, it simply quit working..
