Small, innocuous yet remarkable recording quality
Sure, it looks like a student notetaker but this is a professional grade device. Recordings have a massive frequency range, great stereo perception and the battery life is awesome for just one AAA cell. The interface is a bit cumbersome - like all the other products I can find in this sector - with some gimmicky features like a voice feedback but it seems fairly navigable to me. The build quality is good - a metal case and quality plastics. It's light and resilient if you want to pop it in your pocket. And with a micro SD card inserted, you can go for days before you run out of recording space. In short, remarkable quality, in a tiny box delivers extraordinary value for field recordings of natural sounds, voice and especially music.

A high quality recorder in a small package.
I've had a number of voice recorders like this over the years. I had an Olympus LS-11 before, which was highly regarded. The LS-11 used two non-rechargeable AA batteries, an SD card. The LS-P4 is a step up. Firstly, it's tiny. It uses one AAA and a micro SD card. Battery life is better and the rechargeable lithium is very good. The single AAA battery lasts for ages. The options and control of recording are excellent. There are fewer control buttons on the outside, making it easy to adjust during recording. It is so small that I can carry it in my hat in a small info pocket that is built in.The built in USB plug means you don't need a cable either to charge the battery (which is done in situ) nor to transfer files to your computer. It's a very well thought out product and I would recommend it.

Great recorder but with niggles.
Bought for podcast recording when out and about and for use as an external microphone on an Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark III camera. In both instances the sound quality is excellent although I'd recommend getting the Gutmann wind sock; it's not cheap but it does reduce most wind noise to almost nothing. It's fairly easy to get up and running with the default settings and all the controls are responsive. Bluetooth for remote control has been flawless from my OnePlus 6T.The basic manual is fine for familiarising you with the controls but to get the most from the unit requires downloading the PDF manual which leads neatly into the niggles:Manual - the full (PDF) user manual reads like a technical reference and not the 'how to' guide needed to go deeper quickly.Screen - The body of the unit feels sturdy but the screen is cheap plastic. I'd read about the screen's susceptibility to scratches so, before receipt of the unit, I'd dug out a spare phone screen protector which I cut down to size but I feel I shouldn't have had to.Wrist Strap - This is crying out for one and does have an anchor point on the underside. A spare wii controller wrist strap works nicely but I feel one should have been provided.Tripod Mount - To fit the unit onto a tripod requires the (included) adaptor that's small and easily lost.Battery - my biggest gripe(s). 1. Life - As other have remarked, when the battery's charged in the unit, its life is poor (barely more than an hour at times for me). To extend the usable time of the battery, requires an intelligent charger. I have one already and plenty of spare AAA NiMH batteries but how many others do? 2. Date / Time - Both the date and time 'freeze' if the battery is removed e.g. for charging and require resetting when a battery is refitted. 3. Heat - When charging in my laptop's USB port, the battery and the left side of the unit heat up far too much in my opinion. This can't be good for the life of either the battery or the MicroSD card, if fitted. The unit's saving grace is the high quality of the sound it records in every situation in which I've used it. The results certainly exceeded my expectations especially with the windsock fitted. And because of the results I'm getting, I'll workaround the niggles.

Great little audio recorder
I have recorded most concerts of a choir I belong to so that audio tracks could be uploaded and shared on our website. I used to own an Olympus LS20M for many years and was very pleased with it's PCM recording quality, but found battery life to be a limiting factor. It tended to run out of juice after an hour and 10 minutes, which meant that I lost the last 10 or 20 minutes of every concert that I recorded. I recently bought this LS-P4 and so far have only recorded one concert which ran for just over one and a half hours, and found there was enough life in the battery to go on even longer. The audio quality of the recording was superb. It is only half the size of my old LS20M, seems better built, simple to operate and is a pleasure to use. Happy to recommend the product.

Fantastic sound recorder
At the time I purchased this recorder I already had two different : Zoom H1n and Olympus ws-852. The former was a bit awkward to operate and not very comfy when kept in pocket the latter did not recorded in wav format and was lacking volume recording function.... Olympus LS-P4 has all function and is VERY small and convenient in use. I would say is the best pocket voice recorder I ever had so far. Build quality, easy if use, practicality, and quality of recording - all in one device. Just excellent. It is very impressive device. Highly recommended.

High quality, but requires caution when out of sight.
I tested a couple of audio recorders before this one and it has definitely come out the best. The battery lasts forever (I used it for over 5 days, for a couple of hours each day, and it is still not empty), the sound quality is excellent. A word of warning though: always make sure the recording has not being accidentally paused. It seems like it's easy to happen in your pocket or wherever you keep it out of sight whilst working. Other than that it's worth the money.

Excellent for my needs
I wanted something to attach to my camera as a sound recording device for video. It takes a little while to learn the menus, but I expect it to last a while. I like the lightness, and retractable USB plug so no need to use a wire to transfer sound files to the PC or laptop. Tons of features I probably won't use. My previous Olympus sound recorder was better build, metal, solid, and the sound was just as good. If anything is a minus, this model is a bit plasticky and feels less solid.
