If you try matching paint colors by looking at the color plates in the book, you'll never get it right. The book is good for dimensions of different waterfowl and demonstrating how to carve a handful of ducks. But quickly shifts into very advanced processes. Just start carving and whatever you learn from any given book all the better.

If you would like to learn the basics, through experienced techniques, to carve birds this is the book.What I especially like is that the author uses basic tools such as knifes and gauges. Most other booksrequire the use of rotary tools. A number of national award winning carvers had started out with this book.

This is an excellent book, with great reference photos of waterfowl and gamebird heads. I had this book years ago, but some one borrowed it and never returned it. I am very happy to have obtained another copy. Well worth the money for some one that carves realistic birds.

The author is able to take complex material and break it down to meet not only beginners needs but make it useful for carvers with advanced skills. When I have a problem with an area and feel stuck I can always review his material find the direction that I need.His game bird carving is a must and is great bargain. IT is a must in my library.

If you are just starting out in bird carving, this book is one that must be on your shelf. With thousands of photos to go by that show you step by step how to achieve the same detail as the pieces shown in color in the book, it is almost as good as having an experienced carver with you while you learn.

This is a great book and quality publication that carvers of game birds can really benefit from. The illustrations and patterns as well as the color recommendations are very valuable to those carvers wanting an authentic look to their work. This is a must have for the game bird carvers library.

So far so good l have looked over the book and think it will be an awesome help in getting started!!!

This book is something else. Everything you want to know about game bird carving is here. This book has to be read by any wood carver, truly excellent. There is so much information and instruction in this book.I would recommend his book to anyone interested in game bird carving. The book has everything.

This book is really first class value. It is a bird carving course . I have purchased many carving books and this is one of my essentials. It covers carving , burning, painting, everything , Although some of the species are American , with a bit more research you have all the tools at your disposal for our own birds. A book that should be on every enthusiasts book shelf
