Tech21 D30 Impact Shell Snap On Skin Case Cover for Apple iPhone 5/5s/SE - Clear with Orange Sides

I had been looking for a case that would work with some of the 30-pin to Lightning adapters I now need to use my car charger etc with my new iPhone 5. At the same time, I didn't want a case that was too bulky (tried the Otterbox, which was great but like a brick in the pocket) or that didn't offer any real protection (had tried a Belkin case that was next to useless and wouldn't prevent any damage greater than a scratch). This case had been recommended to me, and, having seen it in person, I thought I'd give it a try (found it cheaper on Amazon). I'm pretty pleased with it and plan to keep it for a while. The case doesn't add too much to the svelte iPhone profile, but I feel like it would do a decent job protecting it in the case of a fall -- thankfully I have yet to test this theory, but I feel reasonably confident in the case. The material it is made out of seems both dense but shock absorbent. It looks pretty good, with some orange highlights, but protection with slim profile was my main concern, along with accommodating the Lightning adapter. I'm very pleased with my purchase, the only drawbacks with it I see are that the back seems to be a little bit of a fingerprint magnet, and, as other reviewers on Amazon have noted, the volume/power buttons are pretty tough to depress. I don't find them unworkable, and it doesn't take a lot of effort, strength or time, but you do need to press harder than you'll be used to. If that's a deal breaker for you, look elsewhere. For me, every case is a tradeoff, and this one hits the mark on all the other issues that matter to me with aplomb.

...And I finally found it! Since I bought my first iPhone 5 in December 2012 (I now have a 5s), I've tried the Otterbox Defender (excellent protection, but it's like carrying hard-side luggage), a Vera Bradley-something (equivalent to NO protection!), a LifeProof Nuud (which I really wanted to love--but ending up hating!), and last but best...the TECH 21 D30 Impact Shell Snap On Skin Case Cover - in Clear. There is nothing I don't like about this case: at first sight I knew it was THE one if it offered substantial impact protection because it looked and felt right. Please refer to the item description for materials and terminology, but the orange strip around it is a bumper-guard type piece that protects the edge of my phone all the way around, with the exception of the opening at the bottom to accommodate the charger slot, earbuds socket, microphone, and speaker. It feels secure in the hand, providing a good grip, with a nice "feel." Finally, to fellow iPhone snobs and fashionistas, it's unobtrusive to my good-looking gold 5s, plus it won't clash with any handbag I'll carry. What more could we ask for ? Unless you want a waterproof case, get this one! (P.S. It does not have screen protection, so I use the best ones from Anker--and I order them from Amazon.)

This product is horribly unusable. The buttons are very hard to press, and the this section at the bottom of the screen provides no protection whatsoever

What a disappointment! Just when I thought I found the perfect cover, I realized it had a few major flaws:1) It covers the power and volume buttons, and it's incredibly hard to use them with the case on2) It's a little bit bigger than the IPhone 5s, so a little bit of the case sticks out at the bottom. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem, but it cuts your hands there! That's because the case is open on the bottom and the edges are not smooth at all.I'd say, go to the nearest mall and get yourself something basic from the nearest accessories stand.

Received this case for my new iphone 5S. It is very solid and actually makes your phone look a bit 'bigger'; which is a good thing. The orange around the case is on the inside; not crazy about the color but it is supposed to help with impact. Feels great in the hand. Solid case; they call it a 'skin'; but this is the real deal; substantial. So I used it for approximately 5 days; and this is crazy but my face was allergic to whatever it is made of! I got a red, raised rash on the left side of my face! Really! I couldn't figure out what I actually did to my face; then it occurred to me that it was the case. The line matched up exactly. It is still there; less red; but very rough. It looks like I put blush on and didn't rub it in! So disappointed; as I loved the feel of the case; and the protection it appeared to have if you dropped your phone.I don't have a clue if this will happen to anyone else. I am not allergic to latex or anything else I am aware of. So this is a great case as long as you are not allergic to it!!!

Let me tell you how often i drop my phone. ALL OF THE TIME. Sometimes, just to mix it up, I accidentally throw it while im walking and it goes zooming out of my hands like a paper airplane headed for the ground. Since buying this case, I havent had to replace my screen OR my iphone. It protects my phone fully. No more bent corners. No more scratches on the screen. No more cracked screens or broken home buttons. It protects it without adding bulk or looking cheap.

This is my second Tech 21 D30 Impact case. I bought the first one,  TECH 21 D30 Impact Shell Snap On Skin Case Cover for Apple iPhone 5 - Gray  at the Apple Store over a year ago. When I received my iPhone 5S, I looked at available cases and found this one. I liked the clear case without the honeycomb, to show off my "Space Grey" back. The Orange is also a lot brighter, which I don't mind. What I really liked better is on the bottom of the case, there are two cross support beams, dividing the speakers from the Lightning Connector.This is more than a "cheap plastic shell", it feels like it securely encases the phone. I never take it off my iPhone 5S.The coolest thing is I visited the local Apple Store after getting the case, and one of the Geniuses noticed the case and admired it, he asked where I got it, I told him Amazon, and he said he was going to look that night, he liked it too, he said the Tech 21 D30 cases are his favorite, but this was a model he had never seen.

I've had this case for over 2 month now and it has saved my phone many times. I am a teenager so naturally I do dumb things. With this case on I am able to throw my phone at my hockey team mates across the dressing room and not shatter my screen. I trust it will protect my phone 100%
