Great Player (May not be as advertised)
For the money, this is probably the best 4K (Ultra HD) Bluray player your are likely to find. It plays multi-regional DVDs just fine, right out of the box. It plays Region A, B, and C Bluray disks using the remote to toggle between regions. The USB-A connector is conveniently located on the front panel, allowing you to play media in a variety of formats from a USB stick. There are two HDMI output ports, which is great if you need to send the HDMI signal to two different places (e.g., a TV and a soundbar). Everything works very well. You won't be disappointed by the video quality. As a plus feature, this will play SACD (Super Audio CD) format disks. If you know what that means, and if you have those disks, this is probably one of this deck's most impressive features. It also plays standard CDs. Given my large collection of SACD disks and about a thousand CDs, it is nice to have one unit on the shelf that will play every thing that I own that is formatted on a 5" disk. The only downside to the unit is that it is entirely controlled from the remote. There are no operational controls on the front panel. Although this isn't a problem, it does require you to deal with another remote (unless you have a large programmable remote that is device independent). Now, here's the tricky part... The X700 didn't leave Sony as a multi-region player. That means that any unit you purchase that is a multi-region player has been opened and modified by, presumably, the source you procured it from (not Amazon, their reseller). When reading the reviews, I was led to believe that the only sure way to obtain a true "Region-free" player was to buy from the specific reseller "Bombay Electronics". This cost me a $30 premium I opted to pay because I didn't need to get into the endless swapping devices routine with Amazon Prime. The unit I received was in pristine condition, but it did not include an HDMI cable (which wasn't a problem for me, but if you don't have one laying around you should order one along with the player, knowing you can always return it if you don't need it). So, this review is actually for the Bombay Electronics version of this player. It is entirely possible that the default reseller "M-System" will provide an equivalent multi-region modification, and perhaps even include an HDMI cable. I can't arrest to it's function nor its package contents. I do know that I am satisfied with the unit I purchased from Bombay Electronics, and except for the missing HDMI cable, it meets all of the specifications in the Amazon listing.

It Works, Be Careful How To Order
Can confirm the player successfully played back Region B Blu-Ray we have been trying to get working on a different player to no avail. This one was correctly enhanced by 220 Electronics. To ensure you get the right enhanced unit though, BE SURE to click on the "Other Sellers" page for the product page, DO NOT just add to cart or buy from the main listing, in the Other Sellers list find 220 Electronics and Add to Cart from that selection. This worked for me, first time I see other reviewers say they didn't get the right unit after multiple tries from Amazon, I think this is the reason why, reading the other reviews. Happy with the purchase day one, it's also a "Smart" player with streaming app support and has a good range of player settings you can even set different subtitle fonts and whatnot. Content plays back crisply and in 4K HDR successfully. The player is very light but sturdy, has lots of connectivity at the back, included an extra 4K HDR capable HDMI cable, and setup was instant, I fiddled around in settings to see what I could do but had to change nothing. Simply followed instructions to press the "Blue" function button on the remote before closing the tray and my Region B disc worked without a single hitch. Thanks, 220!

Does not seem to do as advertised... (False Advertisement)!
The player seem great and works well. Good picture, sound and the Multi System Region Free DVD worked right off the bat. Will update after a few weeks after receiving other "out of country" dvd's and Blu-ray's. So far very happy! Update 01/28/23: Received my first Region 2 DVD and tried to play it After looking through Setting to no avail - Still see "Playback prohibited by region code." I have now contacted the seller. Unless I hear something (positive) back by Monday 01/30/23, I will return the unit! Disappointed! Update 02/02/2023: Again ripped off by Amazon! Charged me $7.99 for the return - paid $250.00, got $242.01 back - after they sent me an item that was totally misrepresented in the description! Not the first time so I will now contact the BBB along with the General Attorney's office. Luckily I have a folder of all my "questionable" purchases the original (false) descriptions. Pissed!

220-Electronics is Amazing
I bought this unit from 220-Electronics which is one of the “other sellers” when you search. I originally received it without the remote and HDMI cable. The company had left a help flyer in the box. I called the number and was quickly routed to a human who was very apologetic and said he would take care of it. A couple of days later it was on my porch. The unit was easy to set up and works great. Thank you Mr Shah and 220-electronics for such a seamless customer service experience. This is very unusual these days.

My Second Try With This Player Was Much Better
I bought one of these DVD players after a considerable amount of reading here. Shipping was very quick - less than 24 hours and here it is, heh. There are several vendors for this item, all with the same price, and all with Prime shipping, so I just clicked on Amazon's default [which was Global Media 1]. The first sign of trouble was there was no additional info included about the region free modifications. Then, I set it up and tried to play a Region 2 DVD. All I saw was this: "Playback prohibited by region code." Needless to say I am not happy, and this will be returned right away. [Review update on 27-Dec-2020 starts here.] Due to the large number of supported disc formats, I tried this payer again, this time specifying Bombay Electronics as the vendor, and that went well. Even though Amazon is fulfilling orders from all the listed vendors. This one arrived with an added "Region Free" label on the box, and a single page of additional instructions describing what was done, how to use it, and an email address for help. So, yes, the region free hack does work well. The player, however, can be sluggy at times, and it is definitely not going to be setting any speed records. Once in a while it will get confused, and the disc will have to be ejected and then loaded again to get it read properly. The remote is quite small, and the Eject button is extremely small. And then for some discs with more than one version of a movie, one can not park the cursor on the one you want to watch and hit play, you'll have to use the Select button instead. Play will produce a message that says "This operation is currently prohibited for this disc." In other words the player's software needs more work, but then it is not badly broken, either..

Beware, this ships USPS
Works great, plays everything, as EVERY dvd/blu-ray player should be required to do. Better yet, get rid of the damn regions all together. Remote is standard Sony uselessness. Very difficult to use by feel, the menu and option buttons are too close to the arrows without enough gap to easily discern, so you're constantly pressing the wrong thing. Enter button doesn't have enough of a "dish" effect to let you know that you're centered. Very easy to press menu instead of the arrow. Play button has a teeny tiny little spec instead of a well defined bump. Again, you will always press the wrong button in the dark. All of the buttons feel identical when you are trying to use this thing. Why so small? Give us a full sized remote so the buttons don't have to be on top of one another. Make key buttons different shapes/sizes so they stand out. And put a damn backlight on them, or at least glow in the dark buttons. Some of us can't see in the dark. This shipped USPS, so if your post office is staffed by the typical affirmative action types, you may well never get this.

Worth the price for ease of use.
Perfect, super clean design. Purchased this from AmazonResale and got exactly what I ordered. My only complaint is my player didn’t have the sticker showing it was region-free, it only shows stickers for BD-A and DVD-1 regions despite playing other region coded discs. It’s so easy to set up and use, I honestly regret not investing into this player sooner. I got this one for my parents and I’m so relieved how simple the UI is along with the remote. The player connected to my soundbar with ease! Just a simple master connection through the TVs hdmi. Love how clean my wire management is now with this player only needing 2 wire connections 3 at most for those who want wired sound connection.

Sony X700 "Region-Free" Blu-ray Player – A Deceptive Buy
Final Verdict: Avoid this product if you need true region-free playback. I purchased the Sony X700-2K/4K UHD - 2D/3D - Wi-Fi - SA-CD - Multi-System Region-Free Blu-ray Player—twice. Both times, I received a unit that was NOT region-free, despite the product listing claiming otherwise. The Problem: The device is advertised as region-free for Blu-ray and DVD playback across all regions. In reality, it only played Region A/1 (North America), making the "region-free" claim completely misleading. After two failed attempts, I had to return both units. Who’s to Blame? * Amazon Listings Are Not Reliable: Even though the seller was listed as "220-electronics (Region Free Guaranteed!!)," Amazon appears to substitute another seller, resulting in customers receiving a standard (non-region-free) model. * Direct from the Seller May Work: 220-electronics assured me that purchasing directly from their website would guarantee a region-free version. However, that defeats the convenience and buyer protection Amazon typically offers. Final Warning: DO NOT Buy This on Amazon If you truly need a region-free player, buy directly from a trusted region-free specialist like 220-electronics. Otherwise, you’ll likely end up with a region-locked device that forces you into the headache of returns and refunds. Bottom Line: Buyer beware—this product is not what it claims to be when purchased from Amazon.

やはりSONYのリージョンフリーがGood!

Excelentes imagenes y funcionalidad

Nice blu ray player
Plays old cds, dvds, blu rays in regions 1 and 2 everything I have tried so far. Great 4 k picture and very good sound. It plays well with my other stereo equipment, oddly my Yamaha receiver remote control works with the X700 so that’s a nice bonus. Some say that the unit is slow, and that the X700 has a delay, I haven’t noticed this to be a problem. If something happened to mine I would buy the exact same model today.
