does exactly what you want it to do and very cost effective. please note that most PCs and laptops need to find software to play blue ray disks, but this hardware does the job.

Overall I really like this drive, with 1 exception.First the good-This connected easily and showed up right away. I had no issues with playing audio CD's, standard DVD's, and Blu-Ray discs (you need to have software capable of playing these, which there are a ton available for free, or better ones that will cost you a few bucks. Same with the burning, personally I use Nero for that, and it works good and has done well for a very long time. The drive is a little slower than many internal drives, but considering most computers and laptops now don't even come with drives, this works just fine.Now the bad-This uses a built in USB cable to connect to the computer, and not only is it super short, it is not replaceable. Everyone knows cables go bad over time, they get kinked, pulled on, twisted, etc.. and not being able to replace this one means when it goes bad, it'll just be another piece of electronics waste. I have another drive that is not Blu-Ray capable and that's why this option was really attractive to me. However the other one has a separate cable, and thus will long outlast this one I'm sure. For the price, honestly I probably won't have any issues just replacing it, but it's a negative in my book and cost it 1 star. Make it with a replaceable cable, and this would be a fantastic product to have.

I made it through 1 disc before it stopped responding to the computer and required to be manually opened to get the disc out. I'll return this one and pay the premium for a brand I've actually heard of.

The magic of this portable drive is in the short cable (really short) tucked into the base. It has both USB A and C connectors on the cable, enabling you to move from machine to machine without looking for an adapter. Once plugged in, the drive performs without a hitch as long as your computer has the proper software installed for playing Blu-ray discs. It has a plastic case, as expected, but it seems robust enough to take come handling without breaking. This is a great choice if your computer needs this upgrade on occasion and you can place the drive within about six inches of the USB input jack.

This disc reader/writer was ordered to connect to a MBP with USB-C, or for an older MBP with USB 2.0 that has a damaged disc drive in it. This external blu-ray player is immediately recognized by the MBP on the latest OSX 14 Sonoma; there is no need to install any drivers; “plug-n-play”.I played a DVD first; no problem. Next, I burned an audio disc from Apple Music/iTunes; success!The drive has a neat little recession on the bottom that allows the cable to sit in it; since it’s attached, no need to ever look for a cable to connect it. The attached cable also provides both USB and USB-C connections to address previous and current generation computers of USB connectivity.I’m not sure if I will ever use Blu-ray disks, but it’s nice to know that this drive can read and write to Blu-ray discs if the need arises. I do burn CDs and DVDs for music, video and data discs and this drive is the perfect solution for any discs that need to view or burn to. Glad to have this external disc drive for this purpose and I can definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a versatile external Blu-ray/DVD/CD drive with read and write capabilities.

This is definitely not plug and play.I even downloaded software to play my blu ray dvd and still not working.So disappointed
