From NY Times bestselling Dr. Jason Fung, this book reveals how type 2 diabetes can be prevented and reversed using natural dietary methods, not medications. Review: A MUST read for everyone - This book is a MUST READ for anyone who has diabetes or is a relative/friend of someone who has diabetes; for anyone who cares for someone with diabetes such as a health professional (Doctor, Nurse, Specialist Nurse, etc) in primary, secondary or tertiary care; for anyone who works in Government or makes health policies; and for anyone in undergraduate or postgraduate education who teaches any health professionals.... The author argues very persuasively and uses medical literature to support his argument. It is written clearly and to me, at least, makes perfect sense. The message within this book needs to be shared with Government, all medical establishments and Universities who teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses for health professionals, particularly in medicine and nursing. The NHS could save millions if we adopted this practice..... Review: Transformational - My diet journey started last year when a friend told me I could reverse my diabetes. I didn’t believe him but reluctantly researched it. I found loads of evidence. I found Michael Mosley the BBC doctor, YouTube videos, podcasts and lectures. It was very convincing. I bought the book. The 8-week Blood Sugar Diet. The science was very convincing and I decided to give it a go. I had already been having hypos and the book recommended getting your doctor on board. I thought they would be very dismissive but much to my surprise the diabetic nurse was really excited and supported me. She told me Dr Glen wanted all his patients to do it, So I started at 111 kilos and 120 units on insulin in Dec 2018. I came off insulin July 2019 and now weigh 84 kilos Autumn this year I was plateauing on weight loss and went searching for more information. I found Dr Jason Fung, his paper on the dawn phenomena was enlighten so I decide to buy his book. It is quite heavy going but not too bad, even amusing in parts. The science is impeccable and detailed. His arguments irrefutable. I read the book in one sitting and feel it has transformed my life, understanding and my approach. I have added fasting to my armoury of low carb dieting. If you are overweight or Type 2 diabetic I truly recommend you read and digest it.

Every type 2 diabetic needs to read this
It is no exaggeration to say this book has changed my life. I honestly had no idea how serious a disease this is. No one told me, no doctor or diabetic clinic has ever explained what type 2 meant. I was diagnosed 15 years ago and have had varying degrees of success and failure at controlling my blood glucose. I tried following the dietary advice given by my doctor even though i knew that carby food would increase my blood glucose. When I questioned this i was told not to keep testing my bg and to follow the dietary guidelines. Of course i lost faith in the process, nothing made sense and it seemed there was nothing i could do to make significant changes. At each review if my weight was up which it frequently was, i was told to ‘eat less, move more’ . Dieting the traditional way (calorie counting) worked for a short while, whilst i could stick to it but it was never a sustainable option and the weight would go back on accompanied by corresponding increase my blood glucose results. I have been put on a variety of drugs over the years, none of which have ever done a great deal to improve my diabetic condition. Some have been a total disaster. I was on Byetta for a year, yes i lost weight, it brought my fasting bg down to around 7 to 8 which i was told was great but i felt sick and ill every single day for a whole year. This was not progress. Gliclazide was a complete disaster causing me to gain around 20lbs in 2 or 3 months. Metformin meant i couldnt leave the house due to the constant diarrhoea and eventually that gave way to Glucophage which was on marginally better. 18 months ago my blood pressure was rising so ramipril was included in the mix along with the terrible Atorvastatin Finally in January this year, on maximum dose Glucophage my hba1c was at 88 which equated to a bg level of between 13 and 15 , insulin was on the cards but a last ditch attempt was made with empagliflozin which didnt last long due to the continual thrush and bladder infections this drug caused. I needed another solution, and by some fortune came across the name Dr Jason Fung. I looked him up on Amazon and found this incredible book The Diabetes Code. I always believed that type 2 diabetes was high blood glucose because all the drugs are aimed at reducing blood glucose. I was truly shocked to discover that high bg is not the disease, its just a symptom of the disease. Doctors are not treating the disease they are just treating a symptom. No wonder i was making no progress with it. Dr Fung gave an analogy of walking into a coffee table and bruising your leg. Doctors treat the bruise, pharmaceutical cos look at ways of making a drug to treat the bruise. The answer isnt to treat the bruise, the answer is to move the coffee table. Dont treat blood glucose, treat the cause. Diabetes type 2 is a dietary disease, too much carbs and sugar cause diabetes t2. It does not need a drug, it needs a change in diet. Dr Fung is a great proponent of fasting, this sounded like something i could not do and in fact it took a while to get there but it wasn’t difficult. I quickly and easily dropped into 16:8 then into eating once a day. Once i got there it was an easy step to doing a 48 hour fast which i now do once a week. Fasting is the most powerful way to bring diabetes t2 under control, and will rid your body of excess glucose like no drug can. It also rids your body of excess dead cells cleansing it naturally. As i said in January the meds were not working and insulin was on the horizon. Within 8 days of a ketogenic diet my blood glucose was down from 13 to 6. Within 6 weeks i stopped all my meds. I had my hba1c done early august just 2 months into this way of eating and my hba1c was at 44 which is in the non diabetic range. And ive lost 46lbs. And i never get hungry even though i eat only once per day. I have so much energy now, i feel great, my skin looks great, i feel healthy. Thank you Dr Fung

The low-down on what's really happening with diabetes
Great read. Dr Fung's argument is clearly explained and irrefutable. I'm currently diabetic, and on reading this I know exactly what to do to rid myself of this progressively and initially subtly insidious killer. It was always my aim to be rid of it from the time of my diagnosis and, as the saying goes, when the student is ready the master appears. I'd advise every Type II diabetic to get hold of a copy. Understand what your doctor and the pharmaceutical companies are doing to you. Diabetes (ie. type II) is caused initially by diet, and the cure is dietary. Modern medicine is concerned solely with blood glucose levels and then various organs when they start to rot from over-saturation with sugar. Insulin-resistance comes about because the cells are so stuffed with glucose that the hormone can't get any more into them, so in type II, the body produces more. Then when drugs aren't getting blood glucose down, the wise doctors prescribe insulin, and then more insulin, which may for a while alleviate high blood sugar, but in doing so forces more glucose into the already overflowing cells of the kidneys, the eyes, the neurons, and so on. So your blood sugar is kept within an acceptable range for a while, but you actually get sicker.

I cannot recommend this book enough. Every diabetic should read it and everyone should read The Obesity Code as well. I recently found out I had type 2 diabetes. I am genetically predisposed to diabetes and have struggled to lose weight for the past 12 years. I felt like a wall was preventing all my weightloss efforts from reaching my fat cells. Nothing was working. This wall is insulin and Dr. Fung has helped me destroy the wall. I have lost 18 pounds in 7 weeks and have already managed to reach a normal blood glucose reading. The best part is that it is so simple. Weightloss should be free. No special meal plans, supplements, subscriptions. Just simple logic. Enjoy the read and reach your health goals quickly and easily!
