National Hardware N197-913 V1911 Mail Slot in Solid Brass,1-1/2" x 7"

installation wasn't as easy as it looks

I purchased this mail slot to replace an ancient tarnished one. Unfortunately, this odd-sized replacement is slightly narrower than the older standard size one (12") and I had to improvise when one of the screws was unable to attach to wood (because of the over-sized pre-cut opening in the door.) Otherwise, the quality is fine.

Though not rocket science, It was a pain cutting through the wooden door, but looks great. Being brass it should last forever.

These things are small -- not big enough for a bundle of magazines. If you are replacing an older unit, make sure that the plate on the new unit is big enough -- otherwise you may have to improvise by making your own. Made of solid brass, but not quite like in the old days. Good enough though.

This is one of those rare times when you order something online and what you get is far better then you expect. This mail drop surround is solid brass, not plated, and carefully constructed. I received it 3 days from when I ordered it with standard shipping. Thank you Deerso and Amazon.

I ordered this for my mom to replace one that she already had. She gave me the number V1911 from National Hardware but I didn't realize that there were two sizes for this number. Unfortunately, I ordered the wrong size.

There is nothing to grasp to try to open the mail slot. Very disappointed in the design. It looks good but very hard to open to place in the mail.MT
