Trixie 43994 replacement trunk, sisal, ø 9 × 70 cm, natural

I have worked out the mystery of the different size screws. Read on to work out which size you need...
TL;DR: the 11cm diameter posts have wider screws than the 9cm diameter posts. The screws are approximately 9mm wide on the 11cm posts and 6mm wide on the 9cm posts.------------------------------------------------------------ Sizing of post fittings -I originally bought a 11cm 70cm tall post, to rejuvenate an old scratching post cheaply. Later on, I needed to replace a post in my cat tree. I took the post from the scratching post to test it was the right screw fitting for the cat tree. It fitted so I went ahead an ordered a new post.I ordered a 30cm tall, 9cm diameter post for the cat tree. As all the other posts were 9cm wide. When it arrived it did not fit.I wondered if the different width posts had different screw fittings, since the previous one was wider. So I ordered another 30cm tall post, but this time 11cm wide. When it arrived, this one fit!It seems the narrower posts have screw fittings that are about 5 - 6mm wide, and the fatter 11cm posts have ones which are 8 - 9mm wide. I have tried to measure them which is slightly tricky and attached photos below. So when you are ordering, you need to order based on the size of screw you need. Not the width of the post. It may not be as aesthetically pleasing, but at least the post will fit into your tree. Each post comes with two bolts with torx heads and one double ended screw. The smaller post also comes with two washers, the larger poles do not.- Quality of posts -The are cardboard tubes covered in sisal, with plastic end caps and metal screw threads in the middle of those end caps. I have noticed that the wider posts use thinner sisal and the narrow posts use much thicker sisal. The sisal is attached with staples at each end. They have all be smooth so far, with no sharp of sticky out staples. The posts could do with more rope. The large post that I first bought, after a fortnight of being used a gap appeared in the rope coils. 6 months on, the gap is now over an inch wide. It isn't as frayed as the old post, but the old post took years to show a gap that big. I have attached photos of how it is today.I would say they are okay for what I paid, but I am now bowled over with them. They do the job they are supposed to do for a reasonable price.

Great product - sturdy, well-made quality item for a great price - fits the base perfectly
The existing scratching post needed replacing and there was no point in spending a lot of money replacing the whole item, so I looked for a replacement post that screwed into the existing base - one that was taller and thicker than the one to be replace and I found this. It fitted perfectly - it comes supplied with various bits of fittings and we just needed the basic screw base. Suzi took to it right away - it is just the right height for her and it is nice and thick. A great product - very sturdy and well-made.

Easy to fit, cats like it
I like the idea of replacing just the post, to be as low-waste as possible. Also I wanted a larger, wider post, which this is.I discovered that the screw on system of my previous post was different - the screw is attached to the bottom of the post and screws into a metal fitting in the base. The metal fitting was too small to get the Trixie post screw through, but I purchased some larger allen keys and was able to remove it completely, leaving a hole big enough, and from there it was simple to screw the new post on. The cats started using it straight away. The only thing I don't like about the Trixie post (hence four stars not five) is that the top looks kind of functional, not nice - it's black plastic and not covered. My previous post had an artificial fur covering and looked finished and nice. None of these posts is so long you won't see the top when you walk past. I'm going to see if I can make a nice looking cover out of a purple furry cushion cover. We will see how the new post stands up to three active young cats - two 3yos and a 5yo. I hope to remember to make an update.

What I love about this is the fact that when it starts ...
Full marks for the manufacturers for making spare posts for this product as there was no wear and tear on the base. What I love about this is the fact that when it starts to fray you can turn it upside down and use it the other way. Plenty of spare screws and bolts but no allen key, but I think we've all got spare ones of these lying around. The sisal rope is hard wearing and the last one lasted me ages. Will always get my scratching posts (well, not mine, the cats!) from here. Top class.

Sturdy, screw at top and bottom.
Excellent sturdy post and well worth the money. I bought this to attach a hammock for my cats. Very strong. I didn't realise it came with doubled ended screws (A screw at the bottom - obviously to screw into base and screw at the top) If I'd known that I would not have bought the hammock as this was bought to replace a snapped post (the cats done it) and they have a wee bed which can screw on to it.I thought the hammock would have wrapped around the post and you could fix it this way. It fixes via a screw at top of the post.Anyway everyone's happy as the cats like the hammock better anyway.Fab seller, recommended. Fast delivery. Thank you.

Useful but no frills
A good replacement for a used post as the base is perfectly serviceable still. The top of the new post is finished with a plastic disc which does look rather cheap if I am going to be picky. However, I believe in time I can turn the post around and get twice as much use out of it. I read previous reviews regarding the size of the screws before purchasing as it's important that the new post can screw into the current base. Even though it comes with 2 adaptable screws, being able to reuse the original insitu screw matters in my case as my base has been closed off and would need a lot more effort otherwise to dismantle. Having said all this my cat has not taken to the newness of the sisal and prefers to use the other scratch posts I have dotted around the house. Not sure why he hasn't taken to it, maybe in time when he leaves enough scent on the post it'll be OK?
