Suspiria Blu-ray – Blu-ray, April 1, 2019

I love this movie and wanted to add it to my collection of horror movies. I looked everywhere for it and finally found it. Unfortunately I overlooked an important detail and tried to play the dvd on my player only to find that it doesn't play in my region. I'm dissapointed and really wanted to not only add it to my collection but rewatch it over and over. On the plus side the dvd arrived way earlier than it said it would!

Glad to have a Dvd copy.Digital are great too.

As a massive fan of the original, I didn't know what to expect of the re-imagining. I was pleasantly surprised! It's stands on it's own with a drastically different colour pallet, expanded cast of characters and, in my opinion, stronger plot. It's a lot longer as well 😁This Ultimate Edition is absolutely fantastic! It includes 10 discs!The original on 4K UHD Blu-ray, standard Blu-ray, the Goblin soundtrack on CD, extras on a DVD.The modern version on 4K UHD Blu-ray, standard Blu-ray, DVD, 2 CD soundtrack of the score by Thom Yorke, and extras on Blu-ray.The box is of solid construction and hold a digi-pack style holder for all the discs. A large 64 page book of stills and behind the scenes images from the film. 8 high resolution artcards, the original poster and the re-imagining poster.Obviously any written material is in German because it's a release from there but the films both have English language tracks. There are no subtitles on the 4K version of the original film. The transfer of which is absolutely stunning and the opening sequence is as shocking as it ever was. The 2.0 channel audio is the way to listen, the mix is great!The Blu-ray version has identical content but obviously the transfer doesn't hold a candle to the 4K edition. Both discs hold a fascinating 56 minute behind the scenes demonstration on how the restoration was achieved.The extras disc is unfortunately on a DVD, which I personally find unacceptable these days. It's not at all English friendly but the quality is so bad anyway it's not a great loss. Mainly Italian language interviews with master director, Dario Argento.The 2018 version on 4K UHD Blu-ray, Blu-ray and DVD all have the same content and are all playable in English. Once again, the obvious choice is the 4K version with it's superior transfer due to it's DI master being finished at 4K.The extras disc on Blu-ray is also all available in English.Both films in my opinion are excellent with the original being a classic of it's time and the re-imagining being a worthy inclusion to the Suspiria name. This Ultimate Edition should be in any fans collection!

Das surreale Werk „Suspiria“ gibt es in unterschiedlichen Versionen. Für Sammler dürfte die „Ultimate Edition“ von Koch Media interessant sein, auf die ich näher eingehen möchte. Bildmaterial ist dieser Rezension im Anhang beigefügt (v. Firmen-Logos + Adressen wurden unkenntlich gemacht, da dies anscheinend gegen sie hiesigen Richtlinien verstößt).Ein großer Wermutstropfen gleich schon zu Beginn: Die „Ultimate Edition“ ist zwar auf 3.000 Stück limitiert, aber leider nicht nummeriert; will heißen: Es gibt kein Zertifikat, dass man z. B. die Box 2.999 von 3.000 ergattert hat.Die knapp 33 cm x 33 cm große, stabile Box (Tiefe: 5 cm) ist in Leinenstruktur gehalten. Die schwarze Aufmachung wirkt schlicht und zeitlos. Farbige Akzente werden durch das blutverschmierte „S“ auf dem Deckel, dem roten + gelben „Suspiria“ Schriftzug beider Filme auf der Rückseite und den seitlich angebrachten, bunten Lettern „S SPRI“ gesetzt. Der blaue „FSK ab 16 freigegeben“ Aufkleber mit weiteren Infos zum Inhalt ist nur auf der Außenfolie angebracht, lässt sich von selbiger entfernen ohne einzureißen. Auf der Rückseite ist ein großer Pappe-Flyer beigesteckt (NICHT angeklebt!), der alle Infos zum Inhalt in Kurzform enthält. Öffnet man die Box, wird der prächtige Inhalt preisgegeben:8 Art-Cards auf Hochglanz-Karton mit matter Rückseite (31 cm x 31 cm). Die Farben sind konstant kaum kräftig, was auch an der haupsächlich in Braun- und Grautönen gestalteten Ausstattung und Kostümierung liegt. Das kontrastarme, erdige Bild spiegelt die eindringliche Atmosphäre des Films wider und trägt dazu bei, dass er die Stimmung erzeugt, die er vermitteln will. Körnung ist dauerhaft sichtbar, die Schärfe ist durchweg sehr gut. Stellenweise ist es so dunkel, dass man kaum etwas erkennen kann. In farbigeren Szenen überwiegen Rot-Töne, z. B. sind die Haut-Töne durchweg kräftiger. Auf den neutralen Oberflächen gesellt sich eine manchmal etwas bläuliche bzw. ins Grün tendierende Note hinzu. Die Blu-ray ist hier zwar kontrastschwächer, aber neutraler. Dafür präsentiert die UHD Spitzlichter kräftiger und ist auf den dunklen Oberflächen ruhiger, weniger körnig.Ton:Sowohl die UHD als auch die Blu-ray sind mit einem deutschen DTS-HD-Master-Sound in 7.1 sowie dem Originalton in True-HD-kodiertem Dolby Atmos ausgestattet. Die deutsche Synchro hat ein lebhaftes Surroundfeld. Die Stimme von Radiohead-Sänger Thom Yorke kommt fragil und brüchig aus den Lautsprechern, was die Authentizität unterstreicht. Was zudem hervorragend funktioniert, ist die Dynamik. Zahlreiche sehr leise Passagen werden fehler- und rauschfrei wiedergegeben. Der Subwoofer hat wenig zu tun.Inhalt:Susie Bannion (Dakota Johnson) ist eine talentierte junge Tänzerin. Um ihre Tanzkünste auf ein neues Level zu heben, reist Susie im Jahr 1977 von den USA nach Deutschland, um dort an der renommierten „Markos Tanzschule“ in Berlin eine Ausbildung anzutreten. Sie besteht ohne große Schwierigkeiten das Vortanzen und wird angenommen. Unter der Aufsicht der legendären künstlerischen Leiterin Madame Blanc (Tilda Swinton) macht sie schnell große Fortschritte. Doch irgendetwas stimmt an der Tanzschule nicht, denn es geschehen seltsame Dinge. Bereits vor Susies Ankunft ist die Tänzerin Patricia (Chloë Grace Moretz) unter ungeklärten Umständen verschwunden und das war erst der Anfang. Langsam kommt Dr. Jozef Klemperer, der Psychotherapeut der jungen Tanzschülerin, einem dunklen Geheimnis auf die Spur...Fazit:Regisseur Luca Guadagnino ist mit “Suspiria“ eine unvergleichliche Neu-Interpretation von Dario Argentos Klassiker gelungen. Die exzellente Besetzung hat einiges hierzu beigetragen. Thom Yorke, Frontmann der Band Radiohead, liefert einen packenden Soundtrack. Aufgeschlossene Genre-Freunde könnten Gefallen an dem Werk finden, Mainstream-Fans eher nicht. „Suspiria“ ist ein Film, den man selbst nach mehrmaligem Ansehen nicht begreifen kann. Er ist verstörend, provokant, vielschichtig und bleibt auf jeden Fall im Gedächtnis. Schade, dass die „Ultimate Edition“ keine nummerierte Limitierung aufweist. Trotzdem gibt's für die umfangreiche Zusammenstellung 5 Sterne.

I've had my eye on this edition for so long, finally pulling the trigger for my birthday, and I'm extremely disappointed to find a confounding error in the packaging of the product.The front banner sticker showing the contents of the box was glued onto the box itself, inside the protective plastic, so that when it was peeled, it would strip the colour/paint from the box. The back board was also stuck to the box itself. I've seen numerous unboxings where the sticker on the front was glued onto the protective plastic, not the box itself, and the backboard was kept secure by the plastic wrap itself, not with additional circular stickers glued to the sides of the box.I've tried to communicate this issue with specificity to Amazon, but their customer service is zero help and lacks understanding. It's just so odd because other retailers seem to have received copies with the correct packaging/placement of the stickers that is non-destructive to the product. It makes me think that Amazon received and is selling "defective" units, knowing this was an issue from manufacturing. Or they're just clueless, which I can't even blame them for being.My unit was also scratched and dented and damaged on its front bottom right corner as well.I'm just so extremely disappointed as this shouldn't have happened.
