I have several uses for this detector. I like camping and backpacking and sometimes in that process I might car camp at a trail head. Having a CO detector is useful in those cases. If you are using one of those buddy heat things (I don't have one, but an indoors propane heater for small spaces) this is important.I also like to have my own smoke and CO alarms when I am in a hotel. I don't know if their equipment works and most don't have CO alarms in the rooms. This is especially important if you are in a foreign country where perhaps the building codes aren't quite as elevated so you get furnace leaking CO to your room.I suggest testing the detector regularly. I generally just go to my vehicle exhaust for a known CO source and it should go off pretty quickly with a high level presence.Rechargeable is a good thing, or in the hotel room if there is an open USB plug it can be on constant power.

I travel a lot, and there's just certain things you can't see or know about until it's too late, especially if you're alone. This meter works great, I can't speak to specific accuracy, but I tested it with a cigarette as suggested, and it flipped the alarm in about 5 seconds.
