A Year With My Pond
THE SHORT VERSIONI bought this pond in May 24 and it has made a massive difference to the wildlife in the garden, bringing in birds, bugs, frogs and tadpoles. It’s easy to build in under 15 mins with simple instructions, it’s great quality and a good size. The option of being able to create a bug home under the wildlife access steps is a great idea. It’s honestly the best £200 I’ve ever spent for the amount of joy it brings. I absolutely recommend it and so does the wildlife!THE LONG VERSION AND HOW I CREATED MINEI chose this raised pond because I wanted to encourage wildlife into the garden whilst also being able to keep the dog out of it. Some pond plants can be toxic to dogs and cats and I used online searches to help when choosing plants, along with planters all around the perimeter of the pond to help with this.Once the pond was quickly and easily built, I created a ramp using rocks and bricks going up to the steps of the pond. This is important to help wildlife such as hedgehogs to climb out should they happen to investigate and fall in.Large cobble stones were added to the bottom of the pond and terracotta pots placed on their side for amphibians to hide in.I filled it from the rain water butt as it’s safer than tap water.Native oxygenating plants were then added including hornwort (bought on here) and a packet of watercress, which is around £1 from any supermarket and is fine to just throw in (not the sandwich cress type in the square tub), this grows its own roots and spreads, growing pretty white flowers.I put in marginal plants and stood them on bricks, and planted a water mint in the ready made planter next to the steps. I also added duckweed and a white waterlily for some surface cover, to help prevent blanket weed and green water.Duckweed can cover an entire pond, so in winter when the surface froze, I took some out trapped in the ice whilst the critters were hiding safely at the bottom of the pond.I do use the water fountain it came with and it’s lovely, the sound also seems to help encourage wildlife to it. I did remove it over the winter in case the frost damaged it and put it back in the spring.Through the seasons this pond has progressed so much in terms of plant cover and the wildlife within it.First to arrive were tiny critters includingrat tailed maggots (hover fly larvae), water louse, pond snails (came in on bought plants, so no need to buy).Birds came to visit and eat/drink from the pond. Then in July 24 frogs started visiting with one choosing to hibernate over winter. At the end of March 25 frogspawn was laid and we now have tadpoles!I have loved every minute of the year with my pond and I hope you love yours too!

What a great little pond - easy to assemble with great instructions
10 minutes to assemble (we did watch a You Tube video before hand as we were super excited), filled up with water using the sprinkle option - out of the tap (if you are not putting fish in then this is fine) as advised by the aquatic shop who sold me the plants. The ladder looks a bit steep but have been assured that frogs and toads are good climbers and it's my intention to put logs etc under it as insect hotel and will be something to climb up. The little solar fountain keeps going until it has no more solar power, no on or off switch. The construction is good and the liner very thick and easy to put in. The click system is easy to understand and there is material to put under the liner to help prevent it getting damaged. Just make sure you sweep away any stones or grit in the area where you want to put your pond. I have put in some pond gravel in the bottom and some pebbles and slate to make hiding places and the aquatic shop suggested a variety of plants both for in the pond and outside to attract wildlife. Now all I need is patience whilst I wait for the plants to grow and flower and nature to arrive. Perfect addition to the garden especially as we didn't have to dig up the patio. We have a hedgehog house, insect hotel, bird feeders and lots of bee and insect friendly plants around the area so that should really help too. All in all really pleased with the pond quality, instructions and finished product.

Great buy
Really good for the price. Really easy to put together and seems pretty sturdy. The solar pump is a bit rubbish so have ordered a proper pump and filter so a few small fish can be added at some point

Fantastic above ground pond
The media could not be loaded. So easy to put together. Took me about 5-10 mins by myself. It is much more sturdy than you’d think. And won’t move once it’s filled with water. The solar fountain that comes with it is lovely and doesn’t need direct sunshine to work. I have three adult Shubunkin in mine with loads of plants and they are very happy. Seen a few small birds come and land for a drink and a look. It’s on a balcony so not going to get the full wildlife experience but I wanted it for my fish anyway. If I had the space I’d buy another one.

Things to think about.
I’ve changed my review so anyone who is thinking of keeping fish in this pond is aware. You will need to ditch the solar fountain and buy a proper filter and fountain combined so there is away of getting oxygen into the pond. The solar fountain provided is fine if it is just going to be a nature pond.I love the pond and it has exceeded my expectations on size, cost also good. If you have cats then this pond is good no where for them to get in or sit without getting wet and you’ll need netting to protect fish. Make sure get chlorine remover stuff to take it out of pond water and also some bio liquid to start the pond off to help prevent Algea, You need to do this a few days before adding fish.I’ve got six fish in this pond, little ones and they are all still alive :)Pond is not difficult to build I did it on my own but if you have difficulty with wrists you might need help clipping the clips in place.

Highly recommended!
If, like me, you are craving a garden pool then this a wonderful way to add an attractive water feature to a small garden. It’s really easy to put together as it is supplied with a very clear instruction leaflet.I am delighted with it and am looking forward to adding some plants very soon.Just be aware that the solar fountain needs to be in full sunlight to work effectively.
