The higher the thread weight number, the finer and softer feel of the shirt. This gives off a soft feel similar to a "combed cotton" shirt. When a higher thread weight number is used, the thread is finer and a tighter weave can be achieved, which keeps the slim fit look in the garment. Therefore, a 30 single shirt would be thinner and lighter than a 20 single shirt than an 18 single shirt, etc. The typical cotton t-shirt is approximately 18 singles. It has a more rugged feel to it and heavier weight, definitely not too enjoyable to wear. 20 singles t-shirts are slightly better, but not by much. 30 singles t-shirts are much better shirts, softer, last longer, and are a better overall fit.
