I divided this up and stored it in sealed quart jars. Worked great. Cooks up fine and tastes good. Kept well for over a year.

Why I purchased: I live in California where power outages are frequent and earthquakes are always a worry. These supplies help me rest assured that I have a healthy, filling food source if there are ever any problems.How I'm using it: Purchased this along with the Augason Farms Pinto Beans bucket of the same size. Beans over rice is a very filling and nutritious meal using 2 pantry staples that can be customized in a variety of ways with different seasonings/sauces. Combining the two foods will make for a more appetizing, healthy, and filling meal that can stretch out how long the buckets last you versus trying to fill up on plain beans or plain rice alone. You could do the same thing with meat and rice however I prefer beans and rice because freeze-dried meat generally comes in smaller quantities and is more expensive.Storage: Came in nice buckets for easy storage. Be careful when lifting/opening the Amazon box though as these buckets are extremely heavy given the contents. The expiration date was true to my expectations for shelf life. Once opened, the beans must be used within 1 year.FYI1. Make sure you have a way to cook these without power in case of emergency (ex: a camping stove). These are long term storage foods not freeze-dried ready-made food/meals (which Augason Farms also sells). You cannot just pour water on them, you must cook them.2. Long Grain White Rice stores much longer than Brown Rice due to the natural oils in Brown Rice3. Augason Farms sells a similar bucket of Black Beans if you prefer that over Pinto

I bought this massive 4-gallon pail of rice after watching one too many late-night conspiracy theory videos — the kind that convince you society’s about to collapse and you’ll be trading rice for toilet paper. It’s packaged to last 25 years, which is honestly longer than most of my commitments. The bucket is super sturdy, the rice looks good, and it’s a pretty solid value for the money. I truly hope I never need it… but if the world goes sideways, at least I’ll be eating rice for a few cozy weeks before I die. Stir-fry optional. 10/10 would panic-buy again.
