You only get the basic courses I was in is told when I’ll purchase it
This software is not worth buying , Open certain courses you have to pay this is crazy. It was not in the video, so I think this sucks.

Extremely helpful for an amateur musician
This program was a blessing for me. I am an "evening musician" playing woodwinds and singing in a choir, with only 1 hour for daily instrumental music practicing, and- I am much better after several months of training with this software for additional 15 min/day. The benefits far outweigh the shortcomings. They keep updating it on a regular basis too. Highly recommended! A good microphone with sensitivity control is essential as otherwise the ambient noises will trigger a software response.

This program falls short on serious points. It says ...
It reads, "suitable for musicians of all skill levels", but only the customizable rhythm exercises can be used by advanced musicians. Others will see a lack in the following:1. Jazz chords are all in closed root position, not in voicings that musicians actually use. What is the point of recognizing a V7b9 chord in closed position, when only beginning students play it that way? Jazz musicians use open position chords almost exclusively, with 3-13-7-9 or 7-9-13 left hand voicings2. No ear training for extensions beyond b9 chords such as #11, b13, etc3. Chord progressions are all limited to a few chords, not complete progressions4. Cadences are not voiced correctly as they would be in classical music (they are simply voiced as clumpy chords, without regard to correct voicing and spacing conventions (why have a section on plagal cadences when they are not voiced in 4 part harmony, correctly?)5. Preferences are too basic. You can't change the tempo or number off beats of the lead-in beats of the metronome, so you have to wait for each exercise. Many more problems too. Not well-thought through. If this is used at the "best music schools worldwide" as it says, then music education is at an all time low.

I like it
I like the way the lessons are broken up and its ability to check my singing. I can’t compare it to anything else but it sure beats the price of paying someone else to play surprise intervals and hear me sing.

--- I bought a software problem but no software "solution"
As a well versed user, I tried about a day to get it running on Windows 7, in vain..... I saw strange symbols instead of notes. Apparently a Font problem. I then received lengthy instructions that did not help either. But from the response with the instructions I gleaned that I am not the only one who has this problem... But if so, how come, that thing is being sold without prior warning? At least for Windows, a warning seems appropriate when it comes to downloading ANY version of ear master. The version I received did NOT self install either . For the first time ever I received the registration code just on a slip of paper. No need to type it in to get the software running as it is usually the case...To me it does not bode well if a software tool does not even solve the problem of its own proper registration thus allowing for easy infringement of the copy right law. .... Hardly any instructions either, the user is left to his own devices.... So far my money has been completely wasted. The update I received lately for "free" does not help at all. It seems, with earmaster i have installed a fond folder that no longer may be deleted because it seems to interact with s.th. else

Not what I expected.
Have to pay more to open up some programs. Need a microphone (PC microphone doesn't work)

Well, the old edition wasn't very effective
I have EarMaster 5, but if I review that, nobody will see it since there's a new edition. And, since EarMaster 7 seems to be a year old, you're not going to see reviews of its effectiveness over years of use, are you?I have had this for years (maybe a decade or more), and there are times I used it quite regularly - maybe 20 min or more a day. But, I just never felt like I made much progress. Well, now I'm taking a graduate course in TEACHING ear training, and some of my readings explain why. Isolated interval drills and the like apparently aren't very helpful for overall ear training - the key is to understand the music in context. The melodic exercises were particularly bad - they would just have a random string of notes that made no musical sense. (Maybe helpful if you're interested in post-tonal music, but not much otherwise!)Maybe you'll have a different experience (people have different learning styles and natural abilities, after all), but all I got out of EarMaster 5 was countless hours of frustration and low self-esteem! Maybe they've improved it with the later editions and newer pedagogical advances, but I thought it might be helpful to give long-term usefulness input.
