Can you put hot ashes in to this bin

I don't see why not - it is a metal bin. The metal is not the thickest, but it should take the heat of ashes. Why not send a request to the seller - just to be certain? I hope this helps.

What are the dimensions of the bin lid please?

Diameter 46.5cms Ht including handle 12.5cms

Is it possible to burn things inside it? I'm planning to burn pictures and papers for a film project, might add fuel to fire during process.

Theoretically but it wouldn't last long - you can get ones with air holes in.

Is lid secure, would fixing stop squirrels knocking lid off?

The lid is not a tight fit. I don't think a squirrel could knock it off, but I plan to use some Bunnji cords from lid to handle in very windy weather.
