A Well made and versatile MPPT controller with bluetooth, that works straight out of the box.
With only 175w of solar panels on my "Solar Shed", I've never wanted it to offset my normal house mains supply, but I did add 816Ah of flooded lead acid battery capacity and a 2.5 Kw mains inverter so that I could keep the fridge, freezer and some LED lights going for a couple of days if we ever get power cuts. On the weeks when the power is solid, I use the "Solar Shed" to do a couple of washing machine loads, and run the electric lawnmower. This has all worked fine in the summer but the old PWM controller that arrived with the panels, was struggling in the winter. So when it also developed an intermittent fault last week, I started researching a better replacement. The Victron unit is far superior in every respect. Firstly, it harvests about 15% more power at low light conditions than the PWM unit could, and secondly it is amazingly configurable, via its Bluetooth driven link with an App on your smartphone (see pics). I was particularly pleased to see that it can automatically run an equalisation charge at a voltage of your choice for a defined period after a user configurable period of days that can be over some weeks or months. It also allows you to just run one manually - ideal on a nice sunny day when the batteries are already "Floating" and you just want to get the Specific Gravities of all 18 cells to be nice and uniform. I have three top tips for you if you want to invest in this top quality controller:- A). Read the manual and pay careful attention to polarities when you connect the load, battery and PV positives and negatives. The battery is different, see.. B). When you download the APP and run it for the first time, it will automatically request access to Bluetooth itself and "find" the controller - Pass-Code is "000000" (Six Zeroes) C). If you don't want the load to be "Permanently on" (The default), then you will have to install and run the App, go to "Settings" (The wee Cog) and change it to "Permanently off".

Bluetooth solid, range of statistics is excellent, well made, easy to install, all at a fair price
Works fine. Installed with no problems, only small problem was the pin required. I could not find it, so used the default that came up. Runs cool though not in full use yet, as I have only two panels feeding into it, and the load is being taken direct from the battery. Bluetooth and the information given in the statistics is fine, though a bit more range on the Bluetooth would be good. Well made and should last many years, at a fair price.

Brilliant MPPT Charge Controller
Fitted this in my VW camper which runs a 150w panel and LifePO4 battery. Very quick to fit and adjust the charge profile. Victron app is stable to use, I have an old iphone dedicated to running the app so I can quickly see what's going on. 15amp maximum charge is fine for my use and this unit is compact enough to fit into a tight space. Only criticism is that connections are specified to take 10AWG cable but they're a bit too small. I have very short cable runs from DC MCBs to the MPPT for the panel and battery, so I stepped down on the cable size for these. Also note that the load output isn't really designed for accessories that draw a large startup current (fridge or inverter) - it's sensitive and it'll shut down when these start up. Fine for everything else though, so I have fridge and inverter wired directly through a fused connection to the battery. It means you can't monitor the total current draw via the app but to be honest you just need to see the incoming charge and battery voltage to confirm that everything is working and charging as it should. Highly recommended and very good price.

Just works and has an excellent app
You just can't go wrong with Victron kit. It just works. Very easy to install and set up. It has bluetooth connectivity built in, so no annoying external dongle needed. The Victron Connect application is simply the best out there. Gives you full control of all your Victron kit in one place. Shows performance stats and also history, which is very useful information. It costs a little more than some other brands, but considering its capabilities and the built in bluetooth, the price is very competitive. It's also much smaller than the cheaper ones making it easier to mount and can take a much higher input voltage than most.

Good kit with annoying lights
Great bit of kit but who the hell thought it was a good idea to basically use a strobe light to indicate the solar charger is off at night? It's SO bright and I had to put tape over it because it drove me insane. Seriously it's been used in campervans and boats so sure someone should have thought to tone it down

Best Brand for Caravan/Motorhome Battery Charging
After buying our caravan, I decided to change a few things, and one of these was a better solar panel battery charger controller. Belonging to several fb groups, I asked what other people had or what they had changed theirs to and Victron Energy was extremely popular. I also researched the type of controller and MPPT was the way forward. An MPPT controller is able to work in duller weather conditions, and can provide a more consistent charge for the battery to absorb, rather than the spikes and dips of the other type. I gave Victron the rating of my solar panel and type of battery, and they recommended the MPPT 75V. There are several models, as well as sizes that you can buy, and some come with Bluetooth, which is what I opted for. This give me the option to be able to download the Victron App. and connect it to the controller. The App. is very easy to navigate, and I can instantly see how the controller is functioning, what voltage is being generated by the solar panel, and the status of the voltage of the battery. The other good thing about the App. is that it works with other products that Victron produce, so one App. is all you need. With regards to battery life and its charging, I've seen a marked improvement over the older PWM controller.

One of the best solar charge controllers I have installed, configured and used.
I have to say some kind words so far for this charge controller, in short, this is an amazing product. Early in its use, I have a small outdoor solar array using batteries to power a sprinkler system, sound system, lighting and an outlet using a separate inverter. We live on top of a hill, no trees, no wind blocks and get the worst of the weather constantly. I have been through many MANY MPPT Solar Charge Controllers and was a bit scared to go with a Bluetooth only controlled device. I was quickly impressed with the VictronConnect software, giving a demo device so I could test drive the settings and see exactly what I would get and control. Next up, how hard is it to connect and reconnect once I got physical hardware.... It was literally as easy as the demo equipment. I was able to power on the controller using Solar power OR battery, meaning as long as you have 1 power source it just works. Bluetooth connected instantly, one tap on my Android phone and the PIN on side of the controller and I was done. I did notice that the default for me was 24v when I had a 12v battery connected but that wasn't a big deal, went through set to 12 and was all set. Because I do a lot of work with solar controllers, I wanted to see how accurate and fast this little beast was on the phone app, ran a constant 25w load and the app was within a half second reporting accurately. Variable loads also gave good information, up to this point I was already sold that this was a solid device. The app is just about perfect, gives you Amp and Watt usage which is nice for quick math and efficiency conversion. I also really like that the battery stats show when your load is pulling from solar only or from battery, very clever and easy to read. Pros: Super easy to install, Plug and Play Easy to configure easy AND expert settings Complete customization of battery settings and a good number of presets Was able to configure exact settings for my 12.8v LiFePO4 battery! Feels solid and I have no doubt that it will last in harsh environments Easy to mount, Good size fits just about anywhere Easily control load on/off depending on solar input Cons: Cant find any yet but here are some things to note Mine defaulted to 24v, easy change to 12, maybe sensitive batteries and large systems might have connection issues Would be nice to have a day timer for on/off functions as well as solar input but this is being super picky If you are looking for a good MPPT Solar Charge Controller, feature rich and don't mind using your phone and Bluetooth to configure, this is the one you want. Can't comment on longevity thus far but I have no doubts this will last! Will update if anything changes...
