War Gods of Babylon / War Goddess [DVD]

I admit to taking my time in writing any kind of review for this double bill, mainly to see what other viewers thought, but as there is a deathly silence I feel I should add my tuppenceworth. First..Do you know about "War Goddess" (aka "The Amazons")? Well, if you do, and if you really liked what you saw in the cinema nearly 40 years ago, then you must get this. I don't believe there will ever be a more complete version available, and while the quality (as the distrubutors admit) is not mint, it truly is watchable. This version is probably missing some 15 or so minutes from the original cut, but what you want is there, except for a strange censor's cut of 10 secs or so after the second fight which does make for mystery surrounding the sudden bonding of Antiope and Orithea (particularly odd after what we had just seen). It's a daft film but it's wicked and a bit sleazy, and surprisingly big scale. T.Young probably only directed the studio sequences, and thorougly enjoyed himself I'm sure. Sabine Sun and Alena Johnstone look good, and hey, it's fun. If you don't know the film at all it's probably best you give it a miss, but it is cheap so perhaps worth taking a chance. Second.."War Gods of Babylon"..Just look at the cover, front and back, and make your own mind up which film is really the prime seller. It's a washed out print but scope, and not the worst of it's kind, tho it somehow manages to make Jackie Lane fairly sexless..how on earth did they do that? I hope this helps and with respect I think the viewer should ignore previous reviews (tho Massimo's English is better than my Italian!). Do give it a go and if you are disapointed well you haven't spent too much money. 4 stars for making a fun film available.

I THINK THAT THE PERSON WHO WROTE THE LAST REVIEW MUST HAVE BEEN WATCHING ANOTHER FILM, BECOUSE THE FILMS (ONE FILM ON EACH SIDE)THAT I WAS WATCHING WERE AWFUL.NOT ONLY DID I HAVE A VERY BAD COPY, THERE WAS ONLY TWO NUDE FIGHT SCENES (IN WAR GODS OF BABYLON)AND THEY WERE IN THE DARK AND WHEN THEY GOT A BIT INTRESTING IT WAS CUT. AS FOR WAR GODDESS IT WAS SO BAD I COULD NOT FINNISH IT.I LIKE THE CASE BETTER.

Title Italian : WarGoddes in topless now nowhere to be found in ItalyGoliardic adventure between Amazons "in topless" (the Italian title certainly does not disappoint the expectations ..), apparently without sexual interests, and Greek soldiers in "crisis hormone. They do not make discounts for the jokes and double meanings, which give a touch more kitsch. Terence Young is the acclaimed director of the first 007, and it shows: humor Bondia eros (much less "restrained") and legendary fisticuffs (the gem of the film) between prosperous amazons nude. There is the pretense of feminism (these were the golden years of the dispute), though a bit 'too naive. Funny 70s peplum that rather than telling the legendary fight of Perseus against the Amazons, it takes around nicely. The battle of the sexes view the first director of James Bond (Terence Young), in an atmosphere typical of the films of the Trinity.Some scenes, like the two rivals fighting Amazons among them, seem taken from his Bond movies, the rest is routine

"War god of Babylon" is a story of fall of ancient Assyria , although it's Sword & sandal film , it is close to real history. King Sardanapalus and Zoroaster are real historical person. But there is one mistake in the title. Main place of story is at Nineve of the capital of Assyria. The title 'War god of Babylon' is suitable.On the other, "War Goddess" is disappointed , why the package is designed with "War Goddes"? I think the director might be Terence Young who is a director of 007 of earlier series. but this film make you waste time. it no valuable as SS film.

"War Goddess": As a fan of paplums featuring women warriors, I must say that the combat scenes between the Amazon army and cavalry and the attacking barbarians and the female warriors taking on Theseus' Greek infantry and horsemen were superb. I think it's the finest example of a paplum featuring women warriors that depicts them fighting as warriors and not bimbos. They are dressed like warriors in proper costume of the Bronze Age, with authentic-looking swords and armour, and they know how to ride horses into combat. The producers took the time to drill these ladies in swordfighting, horsemanship, and battle drill. The barbarians were slaughtered and the Greeks took quite a pasting until Theseus called a truce, which I didn't care for as the women were about to kill them all, too. The DVD is a compilation of several VCR transfers, which the movie does apologize for, but it's still an excellent movie worth watching for fans of this genre.As for "War Gods Of Babylon", all I can say is that is was boring and not worth watching.

Per fini meramente riproduttivi, ogni quattro anni indicevano un “agone” con un gruppo scelto di soldati dei popoli vicini, preceduto da esercizi spirituali per evitare qualsiasi tipo di coinvolgimento emotivo (ad eccezione della repulsione per il sordido corpo maschile) e prove sportive (lancio del giavellotto, corsa, tiro con l’arco, ecc.) atte ad eleggere la nuova regina. La bionda Antiope (Alena Johnston) ne esce vincitrice ma la bruna e superba Oreteia (Sabine Sun), preferita da molte altre sorelle Amazzoni, trama per detronizzarla …Il cineasta Terence Young (coadiuvato dallo scrittore Robert Graves) cercò probabilmente di fondere gli schemi narrativi del “peplum” italiano, genere ormai tramontato, con quelli delle coeve pellicole della britannica Hammer (vedi “She”, “Slave Girls”, “When Dinosaurs ruled the Earth”) che mescolavano con disinvoltura scenari arcaici, erotismo e persino accenni d’ironia. Esperimento curioso, godibile (anche per merito del solido mestiere di Young e della presenza di donne bellissime!) ma riuscito solo in parte e, comunque, guastato da un finale stupido. Bella la fotografia di Aldo Tonti (“Kali-Yug”, “Brancaleone alle Crociate”) e le scenografie di Mario Garbuglia (“Il Gattopardo”, “Waterloo”).Nota bene: la versione presentata in questo cofanetto è una riproduzione anastatica (in lingua originale inglese) della pellicola cinematografica (84’) ed è mutilata di circa 18’. Vista, tuttavia, la rarità del film vale la pena collezionarla! Buona visione!

Super Klassiker!

I truly enjoyed both of these gems. War Gods is a historical epic depicting Babylonian conflicts. Political, intriguing, action packed and quite realistic, War Gods is topped off by a guest appearance by the Great Zoroaster! Loved it. War Goddess is even better! Sexy Amazonian women, superb stunts, nude goddess wrestling and realistic action make this one of my favorites. If anyone in Hollywood still has a brain cell left they would make a movie like this. No CGI, no wire work, no top A list actors or actresses, just sexy epic action with real stunts and tons of good costumes and thousands of extras. Make it sexy and realistic like War Goddess' and you'd have a winner. In the mean time check this one out. My girlfriend and I loved em both. A refreshing treat contrasted with todays overslick ,over digitized plastic puke hollywood is spewing these days.

WAR GODDESSI have watched a lot of amazon movies (Battle of the Amazons, Gold of the Amazon Women, Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death) and War Goddess stacks up as one of the better ones I have seen. However, I don't know if that says a whole lot for this genre. Admittedly, this movie is pure camp, but very fun if you like these kinds of movies. And plus it has a lot of pretty girls running around all over the place.In this particular amazon village, in order to become an amazon, you have to first prove yourself by cutting off the head of a male. The amazons generally don't associate with men unless it is breeding time, which only comes at one particular time of the year. Kind of fun to watch the male protagonist of the film, a Greek character, attempt to sweettalk the Amazon Queen--while she remains steadfast in her hatred and utter disgust with men.I should point out that this movie is not suitable for all ages. For example, there is a scene where barebreasted amazons fight in a dirt ring in order to be the next queen. There also appears to be some scenes that are a little disjoint in the story flow -- leading me to suspect that perhaps some scenes were cut out. But it's not going to effect your overall satisfaction with this movie.The dialogue is also surprisingly good. And I take it that is because this movie comes from an era where you had to sell your movie on "story" and "dialogue" because cheesy special effects could not cut it. I would say if you like these types of movies, this one is certainly worth a look.WAR GODS OF BABYLONI found this to be a decent movie, I suppose. I'm not sure how it relates to the title on the front of the box: "When women ruled the earth." This movie is a tale of two rulers each loving the same girl, and it involves a fair amount of treachery and backstabbing. On the whole, this is a pretty ordinary movie from this era. Has a flood scene which you will either think is really cool, or you will simply laugh at. I can't really say much more about this movie without giving away the story. I honestly think if anything is going to interest you with this package, it is going to be War Goddess.
