The Future of the Industry is Supernova
I recently began working in the wealth management business for a large Wall Street firm, and sought to learn all I could about this industry. After reading Rob Knapp's book, however, I feel that my work may be done. Everyone I go to asking for recommended reading keeps pointing me back to "The Supernova Advisor." Knapp's ideas are paradigm-shifting, and every firm and broker seems to be scrambling to put the Supernova model into practice. The testimonials on the back cover say it all: James Gorman and Bob Mulholland, among others, sing the book's praises. (The former is now CEO of Morgan Stanley, and the latter is #2 at UBS Wealth Management.) Read this book if you want to know what the future of the industry will look like and what the best advisors in the business are doing.

The SUPERNOVA Advisor
Rob Knapp through his Supernova process made the most significant change in how Advisors conduct their business at Merrill Lynch that I have seen in my 26 years. What a gift he has provided to the rest of the financial services industry by sharing the Supernova process that he created. For those that read and implement the concepts that he shares in his book it will have a very postive impact on their business. The book was very well written and at times entertaining, I read it in 2 hours and couldn't put it down. Any Financial Services professional interested in taking their career and business practice to the next level should read this book.

Slightly dated and far fetched.
Supernova is slightly far fetched for advisory practices outside the United States and slightly dated. The general ideas are nice but maybe be a lot more difficult to implement in practice than the book suggests. For example the idea of palming off low value clients to another team you have coached would take a year of preparation. If you are not at full capacity, there is also a problem in cutting clients you have dealt with for years because they no longer meet your minimum. These could be strong relationships. There is also the requirement that clients want a planning relationship more than a plain portfolio advisor relationship. In practice I have not found this to be the case. Most clients will see a planner for planning and an investment advisor to assist in managing their portfolio. Finally, Supernova starts with the basis that you have too many clients to handle properly ie demand for services is already strong. The reality I see is that we are now in a far more competitive world and the majority of investing advisors are running below capacity. I would suggest the majority of advisors looking for a book to assist in managing their practice will be in this boat.

This is the book I have been looking for!
This is the book for financial advisors I have been looking for. I always knew "Supernova" was the way to build riches in this business but this put me over the top to get started. I guess I needed more convincing and Rob Knapp did the trick with the wonderful book. I read it in one sitting and then immediately began making changes in my practice. This book is my best investment in the business I have made after 15 years of practice. "When the student is ready the teacher will come"

A great perspective of the right way to make clients happy
I was really impressed with the discipline of this team and I really enjoyed the concepts. I feel the author could have expanded on the financial planning portion of the supernova model more but I really enjoyed the model. I look forward to sharing some of these ideas with my sales team. In summary, if your in the investment business you should read this book.

I've Read This Book More Than Twice
Rob's book provides structure and process that can lead to excellence. I stumbled onto this book and read it cover to cover, set it aside and then read it again. If you want a systematic, understandable, and very real approach to being an elite financial advisor, this book's for you.

Concepts are applicable to all professional practices
Every few years I open this book and read it again. The Supernova concepts and approach apply to my estate planning law practice and can be applied to all types of professional service practices. Every professional should strive to provide clients with exceptional service and this book provides a roadmap of how to do just that.
