Practical Houseplant Book

The BEST guide for plants.
I absolutely LOVE this book! I first got it from my library to check it out because I am interested in expanding my collection of houseplants. After keeping the book for much longer than my borrowing period, I decided that I couldn't live without it so I bought my own copy. It starts with some ideas for how to design a display of your plants and then shows some projects you can do with different types of plants. But by far my favorite part of the book is the largest portion, which is devoted to the plant profiles. This section covers all different types of plants from ferns to palms to cactus. Information for temperature, light, humidity, size, and watering is included for each plant, as well as warnings about whether the plants are toxic to pets. There is also a helpful section for diagnosing problems with your plants and a great diagram explaining the different amounts of sunlight. This book is perfect for anyone looking for a guide to help decide what will be the best plant for them, which is exactly what I had been looking for without much luck.

A Fantastic Book!
I find that house plant guides are usually awful or hard to read. This is one of two books that I would absolutely recommend. The other one is "How Not to Kill Your Houseplants." Personally I think you should get both.

Great Houseplant Guide
While I do know a little about them, I'm not a houseplant expert (more of an outdoor perennial person) and I needed to know more than I did. This book is F A N T A S T I C.Sure it doesn't have every single houseplant you can possibly buy in it, but it covers the most popular ones which are what the majority of people tend to buy. Not only have I increased my personal houseplant collection after buying this book, this book gives me the confidence not to kill my houseplants and to find the right ones for any lighting/water/humidity situation. I LOVE plants and having that confidence to take care of my indoor ones properly and watch them thrive is awesome. I will admit, my perennial gardens have always come first thus leaving my poor houseplants broken. They deserved better, now they're spoiled and doing great. :)The book is broken up into sections - how to, different types of plants, etc. It's very user friendly and there is plenty of space to write notes on the pages or in the margins if you're a note taker like me. Each plant comes with info on humidity levels, watering amounts and times, feeding/fertilizing, light, if the plant is toxic, size, etc. I've read from a few different books and there are some other good ones of course but I find that this is my go-to for looking up info quickly (besides the google of course).

HIGHLY recommend!
This book has been beyond helpful. A lot of useful information including each plants light needs, humidity needs, difficulty of growing, soil needed, fertilizer needed and how often plus beautiful pictures of each plant. I highly recommend! There's also sections on propagating, projects, design and and the plants are broken down into groups: bromeliad s, bulbous plants, orchids, other flowering plants, palms, trailing/climbing plants, carnivorous plants, foliage plants, cacti, succulents, and air plants.

Great guide; helping this beginner grow an indoor jungle
Really great guide to houseplants. I am an experienced outdoor vegetable gardener, who has never had much success with houseplants. The only one I've ever been able to keep alive is, George, my un-killable Aspidistra (Iron Plant). Thanks to this book and the briefer book"How Not to Kill Your Houseplant: Survival Tips... " I now have a little forest of air cleaning plants, succulents, retro 70's plants (rubber plant, and swiss cheese plant), and even two indoor banana trees - all healthy and happy. Even George is happier than ever, with new leaves. Thank you!

I was wrong
Left a review about how great this book is. I was wrong. Following its instructions, I nearly killed my Peace Lily and Boston Fern. Wondering where I had gone wrong, I went online for ideas. Following the online instructions, I saved both my Peace Lily and my Boston Fern. Bad book. Bad ideas.

Good Houseplant Resource
This really is a pretty complete houseplant book. The first part of the book deals with display suggestions, grouping, etc. Then there is a directory of plants, all with photos and by type, flowering, foliage, succulent, etc. I really like this book, lots of good photos and information on all aspects of houseplants and their care.

Pen mark on cover
Looks like a good book, but mine arrived with a pen mark on the front cover which is disappointing as it is a gift

Very Comprehensive and Precise, Near Complete Guide for the New Plant Parent.
Very use info, shows everything from how to style your home using plants, how to pot, how to select the right plants for your home, and has tones of care guides for all the common house plants!I only say "near complete" because its missing some common ones like snake plant, and ome common cacti that I have, but otherwise is fine.I wish they had some "common problems" or "troubleshooting" for each plant and how to remedy them because I find there's so much conflicting info on what's wrong with some plants on the internet, but maybe that's asking too much for the price point of this book.Overall, accessible, very informative, and should hold anyone over till they get more advanced literature on specific plants
