Great Entry Level Packing Boot and Much More...Joining Traditional with the Modern
I describe this boot as a hybrid landing between the Tech Ascent Approach Shoe anda traditional Stiff Packing Platform, A Very Unique Product. The sole is not technical, but performs a variety of tech functions well, like approach, edging or just fast paced movement along a trail. This shoe is made pointy and narrow to get foot holds, like the Tech Ascent, while providing more support underneath for packing a load.If you are concerned about this being too narrow, look at the suede version, which requires no breaking in.This version will last longer than suede and provides more protection.Look also at mine and other reviews of the R-Evo in Suede to get an idea of how this platform performs. This is a SUPER entry level Light Packing Boot and SO MUCH MORE.If you want something more narrow for climbing rocks, there will be many uses for this boot.Considering what most people Back Pack with, this would be the finest boot they ever buy. However, it is not the heavy and wide SCARPA platform many find familiar. It is more sporty and precise. This platform is a modern compromise toward flexibility and the result is a HOME RUN.It has a unique balance between support, flexibility, alpine precision, and straight forward walking. My one complaint about the Tech Ascent Approach is not enough underfoot and the resulting foot fatigueafter hours of use. Big, clunky boots just are not precise enough. This boot falls right in between. It is even more precise than the Triolet or Zanskar, but provides nearly the same support. Most people will be happy with the support, but I prefer even more underfoot then this boot.I have to put in my stiff carbon fiber inserts to overcome the flex.I am using this boot for long days on smoother trails, where I don't need a really stiff platform underfoot. So I am not really beating this shoe like others.Others are doing all sorts of things with this boot and the suede version. If your style is more climbing around, jumping boulders, these boots could make you superhuman. This "Plus" version has the same Top Grain leather as the SCARPA SL mated to the R-Evo platform, ans so requires some Break-In Period.Still I could wear this straight from box to expedition without ever feeling a pinch.I have heard of no one getting blisters or foot problems from this platform, unlike the Asian Made competitors. Sweat shop shoes sell so many pairsat a lower price, that many foot problems get buried in all the positive reviews. But the foot problems are there, and will set you back from Happy Trails.I was forced to buy these after immediate problems with the Quest 4D.Initially, the upper feels narrow with the Top Grain leather. The sturdy leather is meant to stretch out over time, conforming to your foot like a glove. The boots requre some breaking in.This is the traditional method of boot making which has been swamped by the cheaper and gimmickyboots from Asia that feel great at first, and hurt my feet after ten minutes on the trail. The R Evo Suede version is roomier and requires no break-in and is hugely popular now. These Top Grain Plus are listed at a higher price because the leather is truly FINE.I think that PLUS's higher price and break-in push buyers to the 'hipper' version of suede. So not as many people are trying this version. The Top Grain makes this boot stiffer and more sturdy initially. If you an Old School fan of the high quality leather, you will be astounded by these. The upper is a CRAZY HIGH Quality, mated with a more modern lower. The lacing system is PERFECT.I can so easily adjust the the boot in so many ways, depending on the task I am performing. What I see people doing with this platform is amazing.....from hillside packing to scrambling, wearing to work or wearing every day.. people just beating this shoe and loving how balanced it is.You will easily get 1000 miles out of this boot.I know of one person who has 500 miles on this boot and says they are just reaching their half lifeand he is beating on them every day on rocky hillsides. He is loving these boots.Read my review of the other suede R-Evo for more info. Happy Trails!

Too narrow but claimed to be wide
I returned them. They were painfully too narrow.

Great fitting boot
My husband loves these boots. They Seem indestructible and so light on his feet. Waterproofing has been tested in rainy hikes and they held strong. They do run a little small so he sized up for a perfect fit.

Amazing, comfortable and well fitting boot!
These boots are amazing. I see another reviewer mention that there were "too narrow" or "too small". Umm.. Get the right size dude. And if you have a wide foot, scarpa is probably the wrong brand for you. These boots are so amazingly comfortable and after having MAJOR ISSUES with Solomon and another brand, these boots are fit my foot amazingly. They are comfortable and feel like walking on pillows.. The lacing system and what scarpa did with the tongue i really like. Waterproof and just a great go to long distance, heavy load backpacking boot. A must try.

Too narrow, too small, and not built to last.
I read a lot of great things about Scarpa and was super excited to try out my first pair, however I was very disappointed. I ordered my standard size of 14 that I wear in most brands, the fit was very narrow and tight and felt a bit strange on the arches of my feet. The materials of the boot seemed cheep and very thin and not what I would expect from an Italian boot, I could see some stitching that looked sloppy and loose. I know many people swear by the Kinesis pro model, and I hear that model does not have the too narrow or too small of a fit issue either. But after trying these R-Evolution Plus GTX boots I don't think I will go back to trying another Scarpa product. I'd recommend to skip these and get a pair of Lowa boots or Salomon boots.
