Smart from scratch.
- Review for XSO WiFi Smart Plug - Alexa & Google Home Compatible, Remote Control, Timer - Ideal for Echo Dot, Apple HomeKit, Thermostat - 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, 13A (1-Pack) || Price: £8.99 (at time of ordering) -This smart plug uses the Smart Life app, which I already had for other devices. It immediately recognised the device as soon as I turned it on, and it was up and running in minutes. I'm using several smart plugs in my hope, most of which were significantly more expensive, and this one is just as good. It's easy to setup, works exactly as it should, and for this price you really can't go wrong. Absolutely no complaints from me, highly recommended.

Easy setup and convenient to use
I got this to enable voice control of a bedside table lamp.I already have other smart devices that use the Smart Life app, so from unpacking to plugging in I was good to go in only a couple of minutes. As soon as I plugged in and switched it on the app informed me there was a new smart plug available for use. Incredibly straightforward. All I had to do really was rename the device to distinguish it from my others. As mu Smart Life app was already an enabled skill in Alexa, this was also up and running instantly. All working seamlessly with no issues. My only slight gripe relates to the positioning of the power button on the plug. It is located on the side so can be obstructed when in use on a multi plug adapter. Resolved by ensuring the smart plug is at the end of the adapter so its not obstructed by other plugs.A good low cost smart plug.

Straightforward to set up
This readily works after set up following the instructions in box. I used it with timer function and my voice via Alexa to set up a lamp. App easy to use and monitors activity. The only downside is the diameter of the plug itself, which means it can only be plugged in with the socket switch on (just). It is physically too big to do so when angle of switch is off. As in reality you would keep the plugged switched on to use, maybe not an issue in the wider scheme of things, but to be aware as affects how flush it can fit to the wall of the socket. We use modern sockets with USB slots for reference.

100% compatible with tuya smartlife
I fully expected this smart plug to be compatible with smartlife, even though the advert doesn't mention it, because the device looks exactly the same as the other branded and non-branded plugs I've bought in the past.Pleased to say that it is, and connected no problem with the smartlife app on my phone which then made it available in Home Assistant. The usual challenge with 5Ghz vs 2.4Ghz networks exists with this device, too - while most manufacturers have moved on, many smart home devices are stuck on the old standard. That's not a problem as long as you take care to switch your phone to 2.4Ghz before configuring it.Once done it's all as expects - easy to switch on and off in the app, add schedules, group devices together etc. and if you link to Home Assistant or another automation system then it's all available there too.One final point to add is that at the time of order it was below £10 which is the cheapest I've seen these devices.Recommended.

Easy to use
I use these smart plugs to set up my lamps for when I’m away so lights come on for a few hours in the evening, I’ve also used them previously on Christmas lights, slow cookers etc, simple to use and set up, and handy to have, I now have three of these and are great

Standard lamp to smart lamp in minutes
Our new lamp in the living room came with no switch, so as soon as the plug is switched on it is on, and only turns off if you switch it off. As the socket is in the corner behind the cabinet that the lamp is sitting on, gaining access to switch it on and off would mean having to move it each time. Not very convenient. We could have gone with a smart bulb - and if we weren't in the corner we would have had to, as the extra depth added by the smart plug meant the cabinet would have had to stick out more than we would have liked - but as we already have a bunch of these plugs it made sense just to add another. The plug comes in a very compact box, which contains the plug itself and a small instruction booklet. For those new to these type of plugs (and the Smart Life app) I would recommend taking a minute to read through the booklet. With that said, once you have downloaded the app you can take advantage of the somewhat intuitive guide for connecting the plug.We had no issues getting the app to recognise the plug, and within minutes we were up and running. As with all plugs of this type, it gets given a default name so if you do have more than one it makes sense to rename it at this point. After a few test clicks in the app to test on / off was working (this works even if nothing is plugged into it), all that remained to do was to plug the lamp into the smart plug and plug the smart plug into the socket. Another test in the app - lamp now turns on and off. Perfect! If you want integration with your smart home (Google Home, Alexa) you will need to do a bit more configuration first time around, but it is straightforward and after that any similar plugs you add won't need this extra step. As we already had it configured, the new plug was picked up straight away and then we were able to turn the lamp on and off by voice commands, and have it available to be selected in routines. In summary, the plug adds smart capabilities to otherwise normal devices quickly, and I personally have no issue with the Smart Life app either (and have used it and its earlier version for many years now). The price is about average for a single plug, so really this is very easy to recommend!
