I purchased the TP-Link Tapo Matter Outdoor Smart Plug specifically to control the automatic RO water top-off system for my shrimp aquariums, and it has worked extremely well for this purpose. Being able to control the outlets remotely through the Tapo mobile app gives me much more flexibility and peace of mind when I am away from home. The two outlets can be controlled individually, which is one of the most useful features. I can connect separate devices and turn each outlet on or off without affecting the other. The Tapo app is easy to use, responds quickly, and lets me confirm the status of each outlet before making any changes. I also use a Tapo indoor camera to monitor the aquariums, so I can visually check the tanks and then operate the RO water top-off system from the same app. The setup is so convenient and satisfying to use that I sometimes control the water top-off system through the app even when I am at home. It is much easier than going directly to the equipment, especially when I only need to run the system briefly or verify that everything is operating correctly. The plug itself feels sturdy and well made. The IP65 weather-resistant design is another advantage because it provides additional protection in areas where moisture or occasional splashes may be a concern. This is especially important around aquariums and water-related equipment, although I still keep all electrical connections positioned safely away from direct water exposure. Overall, this smart plug has become an important part of my aquarium setup. The independent outlets, reliable remote control, easy Tapo app integration, and durable outdoor design make it much more versatile than a basic smart plug. I would highly recommend it to aquarium keepers or anyone who needs dependable remote control of pumps, lights, outdoor equipment, or other devices.

I needed to put a ceramic heat lamp in my well to keep it from freezing when the temps dropped into teens and single digits. The simplest solution to provide power to that lamp during the few months of the year when it's needed was to run a heavy-duty outdoor extension cord from a GFI outlet on my covered porch to the lamp. The thing is, it only needed to run during the night--temps got up enough during the day that it didn't have to be on. The TP-Link Tapo P400 was the perfect match for what I needed. The Tapo plug is very sturdy, very well-built with good covers over the outlets. It's IP65 rated, so it's good for outdoor use--but you don't want to leave it fully out in the rain on or the ground. It has 2 outlets, each of which has its own manual on/off switch and each of which can be configured using the Tapo app (more on that below). It's also capable of handling a nice load -- 1800W / 15A / 1/2hp motor. Setup using TP-Link's Tapo app was quick and simple. Just install the Tapo app, plug in the outlet, and follow the prompts. You can set up a schedule with multiple turn on/off events at specific times on specific days--I can see how that can be useful for a variety of situations. The fact that the plug has 2 outlets which can be scheduled independently makes that even more useful. One thing that's especially nice for my specific situation is that you can set on/off events based on the sunset and sunrise. For example, if I know it won't be cold enough to need the lamp until at least an hour after sunset, I can tell it to turn on an hour after sunset...and the Tapo app will use my location to adjust the time accordingly. Same for sunrise. You can tune that to a very fine degree--a number of hours and minutes before or after either sunrise or sunset. That would also be a great thing to have if you wanted to turn lights on and off. Another thing that's useful is that I can connect the unit to the TP-Link remote server so that I can turn the outlets on and off when I'm away from home. I'm very pleased with this, exactly what I needed!

I picked up the TP-Link Tapo Matter Outdoor Smart Plug and it’s been one of those “why didn’t I do this sooner” purchases. Setup was surprisingly easy. It connected quickly and worked right away with my setup, no weird hiccups or long troubleshooting sessions. Once it was up, it just stayed connected, which is honestly half the battle with smart plugs. I’m using it outside for lights, and it’s been solid. Handles the elements without any issues, and the build feels like it can actually live outdoors instead of just pretending to. The outlets are spaced well too, so you’re not fighting bulky plugs. What I really like is the control. Scheduling is simple, and being able to turn things on or off from your phone, or just use voice control, makes everyday stuff a little easier. You set it once and forget about it. It’s not flashy, but it’s reliable, easy to use, and does exactly what you want. That’s what matters most

When you become accustomed to a particular level of quality, it’s nice to be proven pleasantly wrong. I usually have to spend more for a product that connects to HomeKit and sets up without glitches. And while it doesn’t seem quite as fit and finish as many Apple style accessories, it connected and works af if it is. And as an outdoor smart item, it is pleasingly easy and dependable.

I used the TP-link matter outdoor smart plug to control outdoor Christmas lights on a set schedule based on sunset and specific times and it worked great. The product seems very durable and suitable for outside use. It was easy to connect to various smart home platforms and I like that you can control each outlet individually. You should note that this is Matter over Wi-Fi, which has some advantages like longer range, but also adds more traffic on your network. For me, this was the best value. In the future, I will be looking at matter over thread or other non-Wi-Fi Matter solutions.

This was super easy to set up (just like all my other Tapo devices) in the Tapo app. It paired quickly and I was able to easily customize/rename/edit it as I needed! The waterproof cover makes it great for outside.

Easy to use and love the app. I use this for my Christmas lights. I have tried timers but this works so much better. I love that I can switch up the times on the app, and turn it back on if I want with a press of a button on the app. I can't say enough great things about this plug. I would highly recommend the TP Link Tape Matter Outdoor Smart Plug. It is nice not to worry about snow or rain with this plug as well.
