Janeane Garofalo (The Truth About Cats and Dogs and Reality Bites) gives another witty, engaging performance in The Matchmaker. As Marcy Tizard, she lands in a remote Irish town during its annual matchmaking festival. Men are at every corner, but love is nowhere in sight. Until she meets a man even more cynical than herself. Enjoy the wit and quirky romance of the comedy that Siskel & Ebert gave "Two Thumbs Up."

Great service.
I was truly delighted to find 2 copies of this quite rare film at such a great price. I put them on to see if they worked ok, and ended up watching the whole thing again. Still such a great movie. & so delighted that i now have it on DVD, My brother will be very happy with having a copy as well.

An Off-Beat Trans-Atlantic Romance
Talk about snide humour and satisfying romance! Janeane Garofolo is at her wittiest as Marcy, a political aide from Boston, who flies to Ireland to search for her senator's roots in a last ditch political gimmick, ending up stuck in a small Irish village at the height of a matchmaking festival.Janeane spars beautifully with David O'Hara (Stephen from Braveheart), who is funny, dead-pan, and really kinda yummy in his role as Sean, a disillusioned journalist-turned-bartender. The two leads both irritate and fascinate each other as they dodge matchmaking attempts during their fruitless search for a mythical family called the McGlorys.Wonderful performances by Milo O'Shea and Dennis Leary. It's a pity that this film is not available on UK DVD. Really a remarkable romance with no mush!

Finally....
This has finally come to dvd, I had it previously saved on my HDD of the tv... It's very much a Sunday afternoon viewing. It's a Romantic Comedy ,but ,and most importantly in this day and age, It's a romantic comedy that does exactly what it says on the tin, It is both Romantic in that there is definite chemistry between the two leads, and Comedic in that it is funny, very funny. I really love this movie, I can't reccomend it highly enough, Go on, Buy it, you know you want to.... :D

Endearing & funny...
Haven't actually watched this item as it was a gift for my parents & they have thoroughly enjoyed it... So though I can't speak for it myself, it has been an awesome treat & a great laugh out loud belly laugh for my parents... And indeed a good purchase for me to have bought them...

The Brits do it better. ;-)
I really enjoy this movie and the British copy is better than the American copy because it is in anamorphic widescreen whereas the American one is letterbox widescreen. So when it is upscaled on my big screen television is looks a lot better.

Addictive. I had to buy a DVD player just to watch it.
I have owned this film in VHS and DVD, but computers don't seem to come with DVD players anymore, so I sold my collection, assuming I could stream every video I lost. Oops. Not this one. After years of getting weak fixes from YouTube trailers, I just had to go to Walmart to buy an LG DVD burner/player for $26. I plugged the player into my cheap laptop's URL port. It took me forever to figure out which of the dozens of the player's downloaded driver files actually played the movie. Finally I found it: "VIDEO TS." But it worked. The film was jittery because of the cheap computer, but I watched the whole movie at once. It's still one of the most fun, charming films out there. I plan to share this DVD with everyone I know who has a player.
