I believe that Tear-Aid would work well for your shade sail. I have used it on military tarp-like material, leather-like material, and a tent. This is a great product! A+++

Can I use this to fix a tear on a puffer down type of jacket?

It is not listed specifically as one of the uses but it is for fabric repair. It should have no problem fixing a jacket.

How does this product differ from the gorilla clear repair tape?

Gorilla tape worked better for me, to repair a small tear in my patio umbrella. Tear-Aid fell off within 24 hours, Gorilla tape is still on, this has been two weeks.

I use typeB on tents and finely knit nylon jackets but it won't adhere well to my coarse car seat fabric which is stiff until you sit on it. TypeA?

My awning is course and very stiff due to aging in the sun and it stuck perfectly. No issues at all. I clean the surface of any debris and then applied.
