Q: Are these chisels flat or hollow ground on the back?

The beveled face is flat-ground, not hollow-ground. The back face is flat (the back face of a chisel is not ever hollow-ground, but does need to be very flat). These are the only chisels I am aware of that are properly sharpened and honed from the factory and they are very sharp. One reason for the higher price, in addition to the Swiss steel. You cannot go wrong with pheil cutting tools.
