The feeder was extremely easy to set up
I purchased this feeder so my two cats would quit waking me up in the wee hours of the morning for breakfast! We've been using the feeder for about 1 week now and it has definitely helped the situation. My cats were a little hesitant about it for the first few days. They would eat a little of the food and then come bug me to feed them. I think it may have been the change in food bowl that bothered their since this one is very different from their little ceramic bowls, but they has since adjusted and now rush to the dish as soon as the feeder starts to dispense food. The feeder was extremely easy to set up.

A smart cat can learn to pig out!
To begin with, it doesn't have the value for the price I paid. It is OK, but it only took my male 1-y/o cat a few hours to sniff out that there was a treasure cache in the hopper, and he figured out how to take off the lid within 24 hours. Now I have to duct tape it on to keep him from pigging out. It would have been nice if it were designed with some kind of a locking lid.I like the recorded voice that eventually will allow him and his sister to obtain a Pavlovian response to chow-time. Currently, it scares the female if she is near it, and her chow-hound brother has figured out that the voice (a poor quality recording) and clatter of food means it is mealtime. The information provided on the instruction sheet is useless when it comes to describing portions. It says that 1 portion is “about” 10g. It would be better to say that it releases a portion described by volume. Different dry foods weigh differently. We had to experiment to determine how many cycles (portions) to release to feed the 2 cats based on how much we were providing by hand. (½ cup per feeding – twice daily.)I had to get out a magnifying glass in order to read the instructions. A larger piece of hardboard paper would allow people with normal vision to see the instructions easier. Even if they would have put the instruction steps for assembly with pictures in the big blank space on the back, it would have allowed the important programming instructions to have 33% more space and a larger font could have been used for easier viewing.I don’t think the AC adapter will be useful because I don’t want an extension cord dangling around the feeder. Those two cats can find enough mischief without an electrical cord near their feeder, plus it is a tripping problem I would have to deal with. How much do I like it? Time will tell, but at the moment I’m on the fence in the middle – 3 stars, leaning toward 2½ stars.

I knew it was too good to be true...
This is a cool idea and a great price, but this product has some major design issues. When the food tank gets low, the remaining food will be collected around the sides of the the tank and won’t drop into the hole to be dispensed. I thought my cat was just eating all the food very fast, but she was getting no food at all! Also, if you don’t position the feeder at an angle, the dispensed food will become jammed and won’t dispense more than about two servings at a time. And now my most recent issue: the scheduling feature keeps getting out of sync or reset. I keep programming it and then when I go to check on the “current time” on the display, it’s like three hours off! It started out great but ended up being a very disappointing product. Wish I could get my money back.

Too many flaws
While the automatic pet feeder does provide some convenience, mine was riddled with problems as well.1. The clock portion of the display is not fully functioning. This means that I've had to set the time using a series of trial and error tests.2. The microphone is horrible and the speaker worse. This results in a loud, crackly, and creepy message.3. The portion control is questionable. On the lowest, one portion setting food does not dispense ~50% of the time. Sporadically, food doesn't dispense at the higher portions either. While it is nice to know that my cats will be fed while I'm on vacation (though perhaps skipping a meal or two) it's frustrating to spend $70 on a product with serious design flaws.

Some finagling required
I greatly enjoy this product on many different fronts.1. I get to record myself saying goofy things for my cat to run towards2. The playback sounds like a demon shouting things at my cat.3. You can feed your pet on a schedule you choose. My only issue was, the battery 'backup'. I have had more issues trying to get this thing to stay on than anything else. The battery section of the feeder seems like it never wants to actually work when the power goes off. I've ended up resetting it more than anything else. If that would be fixed, it would be better, but so far it is good at best.Also. Don't let you cat see you fill the feeder up. I have to tape down the top now because he figured out how to open the thing up.
