Rockport has always been one step ahead of the times, believing the perfect shoe has not yet been invented. This positive dissatisfaction compels them to constantly improve upon their footwear. Founded in 1971, they were the first company to use advanced athletic technologies in casual shoes to achieve lightweight comfort, and the first company to engineer walking comfort in dress and casual shoes.

High quality excellent shoe.
i typically go with Merrell for my hiking/casual/travel shoes ( have 3 pair) but have been looking for a good leather, waterproof casual walking shoe and i found it in Rockport. I have another pair of leather Rockports (non-WP) but these are a step up. First thing: the fit is very consistent. As I mentioned, I purchase a lot of Merrells and the Rockports are a little longer. For a size 14 the heel to toe is a little over 13.1" and the Merrells are about 12.6 inches. Both are very consistent in their measurements, but i like the longer length. The quality of the leather on this shoe is excellent. Well sewn. I'm used to the excellent Vibram sole on Merrells but this sole looks about as good. As for waterproof, let's be realistic. This shoe is going to keep the water out in general rainstorms but if i step in a 4-5" puddle I expect it's going to be an issue. I have some good Timberland mid-hikers Gore-tex boots for that purpose. These are for casual/work/travel. I treat all my leather shoes with water repellent products and I did for this pair too. For breaking in: I put them on the first day, worn them a few hours, took a mile walk to test them out, came back very impressed. This is a leather shoe, and needs some breaking in, but I should be able to do 8 hours in these very quickly. I expect to be able to walk 4-6 miles a day in these when traveling. I have not noticed any trapped heat in these, feet are not getting warm. One great feature for me: The cutout supports for the ankles are lower than Merrells, this shoe was perfect around the ankles. If you're looking for a leather waterproof walking shoe , I recommend Rockport line, they have a good selection and all look of comparable quality.

Not typical Rockport quality!
This is a revision to an earlier favorable review. Now that I have worn the shoe for 10 months (maybe 30% of the time), I have changed my opinion concerning the quality of the Rockport Road & Trail Waterproof Blucher shoe. After the first month, the colored tread design on the bottom of the left shoe started peeling off. It would catch when I walked, so I cut it off at the point where it was loose. I did this twice, the second time, a month later. I figured it wasn't going to effect the shoe because it had just been added / glued to the sole inside the existing tread. Nobody would even know that they were missing unless they looked closely and could see both bottoms of the shoes at the same time. Well, today while standing in the rain (not in a puddle), I felt my foot getting wet. What?!!!! I checked the bottom, and sure enough, there was another piece missing and a visible hole in the heel of the shoe was letting in the water! I have worn Rockports for over 30 years and have never had a problem with any of them. Very disappointed. DO NOT BUY THESE SHOES! Or be wary of any of their shoes that have colored inserts in the soles. I have attached some pictures to clarify.

Trouble breaking in, hard soles.
After enjoying the Rockport Chranson walking shoe for many years on hikes and walks all over the world - and which I think may be the best shoes I ever owned - I thought I would up the game a little with these "waterproof" light hikers.I really want to like them, and may yet, but boy are they hard to break in. I have had a perpetual blister on my right ankle after 4 wearings. The shoes are noticeably more stiff than the Chransons, probably a consequence of the extra material necessary for water resistance. The soles also feel harder. All this may be worth while in the long run if they break in. Walking vacation to Scotland in 2 months, I will update after that._______________Update: Took these to wet Scottish Highlands for 2 weeks of slogging through the rain and bogs and they are indeed waterproof. They are more than competent hikers, but my concerns about break-in and hard soles expressed above remain.

Shoe inserts are spongy, provide little support and severely rubs your heel
I liked the style of the shoe and they fit poorly, were a little loose and a bit large for Medium. The insert for the shoe is very spongy foam rubber and feels good when you put you foot in the shoe. However walking is another thing. When you put your heel down to take a step, the foam compresses and the back of the shoe severely rubs your heel and lower Achilles tendon. There is no way I could ever walk in them very far because I would have blisters on my heel. I bought them for a trip that will have many miles of walking and these in no way would suffice. I sent them back to get a refund and will look for a better shoe.

Second Pair!
For the money, these are well worth it. My last pair was good for about 13 months. Fit was good for me, though due to having flat feet, I always wear after-market arch support insoles. Offers very good traction and stability walking through grass and in the woods (much better than gym shoes), and though not waterproof, can be immersed in surprisingly deep water before being breached. In my case, what finally broke down was the soles in the middle phalanx-metatarsal area.

my feet were totally dry - amazing!!
Stiff when first put on, but within 30 minutes absolutely no problem. I wear them some days for 9 hours in a row, and never have blisters or sore spots. I got them soaked the other day, but when I took them off, my feet were totally dry - amazing!!

Great support, very comfortable shoe.
My husband loves these shoes - As he's on his feet most of the day, up and down stairs and across campus he decided to give Rockport a try. So glad he did - his first pair of Rockport's (different style) were still serving him well but he noticed his legs were getting tired earlier in the day so he decided to replace them. His old style of Rockport's were no longer made so he switched to this style. Very happy with his choice - very good arch and footbed support - and they are comfortable all day long. While Rockports are a little pricey - the support and comfort they offer as well as the longevity (his old Rockports are still wearable for around the yard and they are over a year old) make them well worth the cost. Arrived quickly, well packaged, fit perfectly, no manufacturing defects - no problems with purchase at all. Very happy with purchase but wish they came in a black color.
