Great Expectations!No, that really is a lie actually. Mine were quite tepid as far as my excitement, and expectations. They say you get what you pay for. I say it to all my friends, and family alike. Everything without exception is built to a cost. Commodities work this way. Remember Routers used to cost over $500.00?? Yes you do. I know I did. Along with that MCSE degree you needed to interface it. Well, now they are plug and play for less $50.00.This one grip is kind of like that. Except it will NOT have the Weather seals of the Factory OEM unit by Pentax. Please know this going in, and all is right with the world. With all the major food groups covered here such as shutter release, locking collar, AF, and more, others state what magic soup buttons come with here. I wanted to share that I am a big person on Ergos, and this grip solves one big gripe for me on what is the best camera I have ever bought.The Pentax K-5 ii. With my Gorilla sized hands, this is not a DSLR camera, but a small bridge camera with a glandular problem.Sure it is wide enough, but tall is not in the cards on the K-5 ii. So my small finger has no where to go.This grip gives me the finger.Well, that is, it gives my little finger a proper purchase to land on. On top of this, this made in China device feels solid in the hand, fits the K-5 ii a treat. Almost really does look like it belongs on the camera. My mantra on great pictures is the basics, and yes, that camera better fit your hand, and this battery grip by DSTE fills my hand with camera in such a great way. Button feel is average, a bit mushy in actuation, and will not in any way displace the factory grip, I know, I played with one, and just could never swallow that "are you nuts price." Yes, you can now get them for $120.00 or so. I got mine here, this DTSE for $36.00 to my door!The rotary dials for Shutter, and Aperture are bit chinzy in feel, in that they don't have that nice release, detent feel of the real deal. Okay now that all the carping about the real deal, and all is out of the way, will it work? Heck yes! My camera functions just fine with Auto Battery detection of all modes, AA Battery, In Body, and In Grip just fine thank you.So really should you buy the Factory Grip? Now that is really why you are reading this and other reviews here right? Of course it is. I did the same thing, and thought, okay, no downpours of rain, snow, sleet in the cards for this camera. Could I spend the money more wisely, and invest on what I saved on another lens or something? You bet! I did, I have a Sigma on the way ordered today!Now if you do have weather, and beat your camera up, don't waste your money here, and go buy the original Factory OEM Pentax Grip, do not look back, do not pass GO, and do NOT collect $200.00. You will have a more robust Grip no doubt. Better button actuation, better feeling control dials, and the weather seals too. For me, and I have a feeling many others, this DSTE Battery Grip will do just fine. Even if it dies in 2 years, I got my money's worth. Crazy huh?? Commodities work that way too. They die, you just go buy another one. Like a Router, this will work a treat till it breaks something, and you buy another. Welcome to the value cycle. Now lets go take some pictures. V.C.

Well made and works as it should, just like the Pentax grip. Thing is, Pentax makes small DSLRS, which is a bit of a nuisance with this or the Pentax grip. When going from vertical (portrait) to horizontal (landscape) shots, be sure to turn the grip power switch off, or you may find aperture or shutter speed settings changing, and you may notice that the shutter occasionally is releasing. Nothing is wrong with either the camera or grip. It's just that when gripping, or carrying the camera by the built-in grip, your hand, or fingers can easily touch controls on the screw-on grip. No problem so long as the screw-on grip is turned off.Another quibble. The last one of these grips I bought had an extremely tight latch mechanism for the battery tray. On removing the battery tray and looking at it, the top latch appeared to be pressing too hard against the plastic along the tray side of opening from which the top part of the latch protrudes in the "locked" position. Since the thing was gonna be more trouble than it was worth to exchange, I removed the four small screws that hold the battery tray to the latching mechanism and back part of the tray insert. This revealed a metal disc, with two "ears", one long, one short, located 180 degrees from each other along the circumference of the eared disc. The ears are offset from the disc by two 90-degree bends. This eared disc rides on another metal disc which is part of the latch key that you turn when locking or unlocking the tray from the grip body. The eared disc is prevented from slipping against the latch key disc by two holes drilled in it, which correspond to two tiny (maybe a millimeter high and a millimeter in diameter) "pegs" that protrude from the latch-key disc, located 180 degrees from each other along the circumference of the latch-key disc. Well, only one hole had been drilled (or cast) in the eared disc. This meant that the eared disc sat lopsided, and that it could slip and bind when the latch key was turned. I drilled the second hole, screwed the thing back together, and now it works fine. Apparently it was some sort of (hopefully temporary) problem in the manufacturing process. This may apply to other comments I have read concerning difficulty turning the latch key ...

I truthfully wasn't expecting a whole lot when I purchased this knock off version, but I wanted to test out what it was like to have a battery grip on my camera. It arrived in the mail very quickly and was packaged appropriately; I unboxed it but then realized that I didn't have an extra battery nor 6 AA batteries. And then I discovered something cool.I hooked it on to my camera (Pentax K5ii) and flipped the on switch on the grip. No surprise that it didn't turn the camera on. I switched the camera on via the actual switch and grabbed the grip again and took a "fake shot" and much to my surprise; with the switch on on the body and the battery grip, it operates the camera. Very cool in my book. I didn't know to expect this but it was great.It's comfortable, all the switches work really well and I'm very pleasantly surprised with this purchase. I'd definitely recommend it.

Camera recognizes the grip and will control which battery is used first. Fit with the camera body is excellent. Looks very close to OEM style. Only knock is the on and off switch doesn't have a very positive click when the unit is turned on. It feels slightly mushy or wiggly. All the other buttons function as you would expect. The battery release tab is a little difficult to turn on my AA battery tray. Just pay attention and don't force anything.Update! - The silkscreen wore off on my trip to Cancun. Don't know if it was the sweat, sunscreen, use, or all of the above. The grip worked great. Happy with the purchase.

This was so cheap compared to retail stores in Australia. Easy to use and the batteries last ages now on my Pentax camera. Thanks so much!

Works as it should, great price.

Fits very well on the camera (K5 II). All functions/ buttons work. On/off/DOFP switch a bit dicey....does not point to on/off accurately....DOFP requires quite a bit of effort for it to engage....but they all do work. Time will tell how well this will hold up. I am hopeful.

Both the rechargeable insert and the AA insert work properly. The AA insert is a bit snug when sliding it into the holder.
