Covers the dialectic between different schools of Indian philosophy
This is a tough read! The author has done a tremendous job of collating the philosophy philosophy of different schools of thought. The schools are discussed in temporal order, but because of the very nature of evolution by back and forth engagement between the schools, crossover of information of a specific school into other schools is imperative. Much of my reading is limited to the 4th volume- the dwaita offensive against adwaita, and it's refutation. But I must say, at least for a novice like me in the field, it is a very, very difficult read! Not because of the author, but because of the sheer content- the dialectical exchanges are so complex, that you are in danger of shooing them off as meaningless! In essence, this is only for those who have the curiosity on Indian philosophy, and are patient and invested enough to understand the brilliant philosophical minds that enabled its development and evolution...

Best book for study of Indian philosophy.
I am happy to have this book from well known writer of the last century. Sometimes I am puzzled to comprehend various philosophical thoughts, but overall I have feel of evolution of Indian spiritual systems over thousands of years.

Things You Know Before Buy
Book Is Very Good And It's Content Is Very Important For Understanding Indian Philosophy. Some Point Are Worth Considering:-1) Not For Beginners - If You Just Start Reading Indian Philosophy out of Interest Then I Recommend You Don't Start With This Book . As This Is High Level Book And Writer Assume Many Things Which He Thinks Readers Should Know .2) Language - Language Is Not Very Ingaging And Sometimes Like A Very Raw Book With Only Knowledge. So If You Are Not A Hard Core Reader You Can Feel Bore.

A bit heavy, but worth the effort.
As a novice, this serves as an introductory text for Indian philosophy. And expectedly it was a but difficult to get in the rhythm for the beginning, not because of the writing style (which is very clear and coherent), but because in takes a deep dive in many news concepts. Most definitely recommend it.

Formatting is off and can ruin the flow of reading.
Also it is of an older writing style which may make it seem repetitive and confusing. But provides wound information and comparisons for any lovers of philosophy, Indian or in general.
