Punchy!
Wow this is punchy! I had been craving the flavor unique to stick donuts, but couldn't duplicate it at home. Then an internet search suggested mace, a spice I've never used and rarely even see in the wild. Let me tell you, this is the spice I was looking for. A little goes a long way, so under an ounce should last me about 92 years. So all in all, a great value, lol. It tastes like nutmeg's feisty older sister who's lived an exciting life of adventure. Plus, the jar has the name MACE printed on the lid, which makes it easy to identify among other spice jars.

Wonderful product
I make my own (British) Mixed Spice for the fall season. I needed some Mace and there was none to be found in town. Not sure if anyone reading this wants the recipe but I'm here to tell you it is so much better than American pumpkin pie spice. I'll share the recipe with you. It's wonderful in all manner of baking or even to mix into cream for coffee. Homemade British Mixed Spice 1 tablespoon quality ground cinnamon 2 teaspoons ground allspice 2 teaspoons ground nutmeg 1 teaspoon ground cloves 1 teaspoon ground ginger 1 teaspoons ground coriander 3/4 teaspoon ground mace Combine all spices in an airtight glass jar and keep store in a dark cool place for up to several months. Makes about 1/4 cup of Mixed Spice.

It's mace, like any other. A bit pricey by volume, but in a good size for most kitchens.
Mace isn't a spice many of us need very often, so it is good to have it in a package this size. Two of these little containers, stacked, take up the same space as a usual jar of spices. But you are kind of paying a premium for McCormick's branding. I would love it if this were available in a generic brand (like Amazon's 365), at this size. If you're not familiar with mace, it is from the same plant as nutmeg, but has a distinct flavor and scent. It's among those "holiday-ish" spices, so it's a good addition to pumpkin pie, gingerbread cookies, and anything else that calls for nutmeg, allspice, cinnamon, and/or cloves – even if the recipe doesn't call for mace (it can be your secret ingredient). But use it sparingly until you figure out a good ratio. Meal-wise, it's a component in various South Asian dishes (e.g., part of a curry mix). I think it's also used in some Caribbean, Middle Eastern, and African cuisine, though I have only dabbled in that direction. Oh, and if you want to make your own East Coast-style seafood seasoning (along the lines of Old Bay), this might be a worthwhile addition. I think most of the distinct flavor profile of that is from nutmeg, though it may also have some allspice in it.

Magical, Exotic Single-Source Spice
Mace is a single-source spice derived from the waxy, lacy sheath encasing the nutmeg seed, and one which brings a magical complexity and sense of surprise to the palate. McCormick's offers this golden brown wonder dust at the best price within the Amazon Ecosystem, and in a quantity that doesn't force us to overbuy. Opening the container conjures the smell and ethereal warmth of the Holidays, but with added nuances of saffron and black pepper. It's spicier and sweeter than nutmeg, and brings elevation to a dish as a counterpoint to nutmeg's depth. Peaches and pears, light and flaky fish, chicken, pork, roasted vegetables, dairy, cookies, and cream-based soups are all prime pairings for this exotic spice. And like its nutmeg sibling, Mace is always home for The Holidays, and needs to finds its way into your booze. One of Earth's most wondrous spices, albeit one nearly forgotten in an American era of blunt force convenience foods. – (Was this review of use to you? If so, let me know by clicking "Helpful."
