Does the back cap fall off and get lost like the older model I have?

No it doesn't have to. I lost a cap. It was my fault though! I took a close look at the cap attachment feature after I purchased a replacement cap from Amazon. All you have to do is push the cap all the way in. I was sloppy when I lost my cap! I do not know what your older model was like but the USB cap for this 600XL is well made. If you use them properly then these caps will be secure. A 600XL cap cannot fall off if it is properly secured!

Is there an indicator to tell you the battery level?

The led on the power button turns from green to a a reddish green, yellow, at 50%. A solid red at 10% and a flashing red at 5%.

How long is the attachment strap?

I don’t use the strap. I bought Lezene’s separate clamp, which works perfectly and doesn’t slip at all. Recommend it. Search Lezyne Headlight Clamp.
